After the BS...
For those here with advanced degrees do you think it matters where you went to undergrad after you have a MD, DDS, MBA, or JD?

I don't think where you went to undergrad has any true bearing on how successful you will be in persuing an advanced degree. In law school, I had students from every type of undergrad campus (PWI, HBCU, junior college/university combo, etc) and most students were able to handle the curriculum.
The only thing I think the admissions boards are truly concerned about is how good your grades were while you were in undergrad. Of course, most schools do also look at your post-undergraduate work experience depending on how long you were out of college. |
I agree. Not that they are not looking at where you did your UG when they are looking at your grades, but I don't think that as much importance is put on it as it once was, with the various shifts and modes of learning in our modern-day society.

as my girl Whitney would say... HELL TO DA NAW!!! LOL LOL
Truthfully, I would say that the only time it would matter is if the person hiring you has great experiences with alumni from your undergrad OR they are an alum as well! I was told that where you get your advanced degree is what really matters in general... Now if we were talking about whether where you got your BS/BA matters in GETTING INTO graduate/professional school, then that's a totally different story. While folks would like for you to BELIEVE that a great academic record from West Bumblef@#k University means the same thing as a great academic record from somewhere like Harvard, NYU, or Columbia, THEY ARE LYING!!!!!!!! |
I've also heard that it doesn't matter, but it doesn't hurt, where you got your UG degree. And it also depends on the field of course.
