4 USC fraternities ready to build in new village

Four fraternities have arranged financing so they can be among the first in the 15-house Greek village behind USC's coming wellness center.

They don't have to start building anytime soon, though, even though there's heavy equipment on the site, moving earth to lay down roads.

"We're cranking down there," said Jerry Brewer, USC's student life director and coordinator for the Greek village.

Fraternities planning to move in are Alpha Tau Omega, Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Nu. All have chosen sites running perpendicular to Blossom Street but not bordering the road.

The four 10,000-square-foot houses will be three-story buildings with red bricks and white columns.

Each fraternity arranged its own financing. USC will lease the land and manage the 20- to 40-bed houses, turning over room fees to the fraternities, so they can pay their mortgages.

ATO selected a lot with north-south exposure and far removed from Blossom Street. Alumnus Eddie Bignon manages ATO's housing corporation and said his group hasn't yet signed a contract. When it does, it will have a year to start construction on its million-dollar house.

"Just like there's individuals in a housing complex, there will be individual corporations (in the Greek village)," Bignon said. Some of the early-bird corporations may even have houses up before ATO starts building, he said - maybe within a year.

Nice Move I hope!:)

More to come later, right?

Not to point out errors or anything, but read the date on the article... ATO, SAE, Sigma Nu, KA, and ZTA have been in the greek village for about 3 years. There are now 8 sororities and a few fraternities there as well (I can't remember the number of fraternities... probably around 10 at this point).

That's a very very very old article. Now in the greek village are:
Fraternities:
KA
ATO
SAE
Kappa Sig
Chi Psi
Sigma Chi
Sigma Nu

Sororities:
KKG
DZ
ZTA
Chi Omega
Alpha Chi Omega
Tri Delta
KD
ADPi

Newly coming to the village (and someone can correct me about this, but this is what I'm pretty sure is coming in)
Gamma Phi Beta (sorority, newly started chapter this past year, actually)
DTD
Sig Ep
I think Lamda Chi (I'm unsure about this one)
And I think one more of the smaller fraternities aswell

I'm not sure when construction on these houses are starting or when they're planned to be finished, but I know that after these houses are built, greek village is officially full. All the lots have been purchased and are awaiting construction.

Omegas are also building a house as well...

Seems like yesterday they were making plans for Greek Village and now it's almost full!:)

Pi Kappa Phi also has a lot and they will be building soon as well. Currently, Gamma Phi Beta does not have a lot but they are working on plans to build from what I understand. The reamaining lots have leases by:

Omega Psi Phi
Delta Tau Delta
Pi Kappa Phi
Lambda Chi Alpha
Sigma Phi Epsilon

I believe Lambda Chi, Sig Ep, and Omega are looking at a fall 2006 move in. I am not sure about the timeframe for the other two, but I'm sure it is somewhere in that neighborhood.

Gamma Phi does have a lot, but it's on the "annex" cul-de-sac that is planning on being built. It was part of their acceptance on to campus by the admin. They had to build a house to be allowed on.

I hope I did the link right so you can see the picture!
