I know that there is freedom of speech but when will people start to care about other people's feeling before they decided to create a product. I guess I thought I could include my 2 cent on this

PHILADELPHIA - The Anti-Defamation League has asked retailer Urban Outfitters to stop selling a T-shirt that reads: "New Mexico, Cleaner than Regular Mexico."

"This is saying that the country of Mexico is a dirty place," said Barry Morrison, regional director of the civil rights group. "Dirty can be interpreted figuratively and literally."

The group wants the Philadelphia-based retailer to get rid of all its inventory.

Urban Outfitters did not immediately return calls for comment Friday. The retailer, which targets 18- to 30-year-olds, has run into similar controversy before.

Two years ago, it stopped selling a game called "Ghettopoly" after protests by black civil rights leaders. Last year, it halted sales of a T-shirt that read "Everyone Loves A Jewish Girl," surrounded by dollar signs, after the Anti-Defamation League objected.

A "Voting is for Old People" T-shirt angered pro-voting groups.

Urban Outfitters operates 77 stores in the United States, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. This year, first-quarter profits rose by 60 percent to $27.4 million, compared to the same period a year ago.

You know a decent lawyer could argue there is no "Regular Mexico."

I know of New Mexico and Mexico but I've never heard of "Regular Mexico."

I think people need to chill.

If anyone's gonna sue Urban Outfitters, it should be Abercrombie for copying their rip on a state idea.

It's all relative in West Virginia! So sad I didn't get one of those shirts :(

This is nothing with Urban Outfitters. Every so often when they came out with a new product, someone tries to protest them or boycott them or whatnot. When they came out with the "everyone loves a..." shirts, the Everyone Loves a Jewish Girl shirt had dollar signs and shopping bags on it. Some rabbis and Jewish groups protested them, and Urban Outfitters had to change it, so now it just has hearts on it. Personally, I thought the original version was funny and am upset I couldn't get one of those.

Search for one on ebay, you might be able to score one...

Do they sell by mail?

Hopefully they'll do a GA shirt, perhaps:

"We apologize for Jimmy Carter"

"Nations largest supplier of red clay"

"Support Cairo High School, home of the syrup makers"

"We're #49 - Thank God for Mississippi"

Just for the record, "Thank God for Mississippi" is Alabama's unofficial state motto. :p

I can't believe this is an issue since Busted Tees has had this shirt on their site for at least 6 months. Why is it suddenly awful when the big places start selling it?

wouldn't this also be protected under the 1st Amendment?

also, if "regular mexico" refers to the republic of mexico, then it's true.

I think my high school used to play football with Cairo! It cracks me up to this day that their mascot is the Syrup Makers. I wonder what kind of spirit chants they have...

I'd be the first one in line to buy one about Italy if there was one.

Ummmm, when was the last time ANY of you were in Mexico? It's dirty as hell there, Cancun included.

I tried in vain to find this shirt. Someone in the Abercrombie store in Charleston, WV, told me they couldn't keep this shirt on the shelves. Frankly, I don't see why people make such a huge fuss over these kinds of shirts. They have their 15 minutes of fame, and they end up in the backs of closets. No big deal.
