2005-2006 NBA Season

Looks like Isiah Thomas have done it again. He invested $29 million in Jerome James. This guy make Luc Longley looks graceful. What the hell is going on there?

That's what happens when you need a center, Isiah is running the team, and there's money to spend. If James plays like he did in the playoffs, it's a solid move. More likely than not though, it's a waste.

There have been a few of those contracts, though. Hughes did well from Cleveland (in their rush to get a SG to pair with Lebron), especially since he has no outside shot. Cuttino Mobley got a good amount from the Clippers ($42 million from Donald Sterling - how did he pull that off?). Joe Johnson will be the next one with the big payday, as it looks like he's going to get a close-to-max offer from Atlanta that Phoenix will match.

Here in Boston the big story is whether or not the Celts will trade Paul Pierce. A sign and trade is a possibilty with Antoine Walker, but the question is who the Celts would want in return (Sacramento for Brian Skinner?). They're also trying to dump Raef Lafrentz's salary. Who knew that paying a center/PF with serious knee problems that much money would be a bad idea?

It looks like Abdur-Rahim will be going to the Nets.

That would be great for the Nets - a year after letting Kenyon Martin go, they'll get someone who would be a solid upgrade.

Larry Brown is officially out in Detroit; according to ESPN.com a buyout agreement has been reached. Brown's agent is saying that it was more of a firing than a buyout.

According to Stephen A. Smith on SportsCenter a couple of nights ago, there's a deal on the table in New York for Brown to coach the Knicks. Rumor is that it's a 5 year deal worth between 10-12 million a year.
