Good Books

I was going to VA for a couple days, and I need a good book to read. Any suggestions?

What type of book do you enjoy? I love anything by Maeve Binchy or Rose Owens, who are both Irish storytellers who weave their characters in and out of plots like true masters.

I also like thrillers, such as Daniel Silva (The English Assassin, The Confessor), or Daniel Baldacci.

The new Harry Potter comes out Saturday! ;)

What type of books do you like- girly fiction...romance...non-fiction??

I've heard "The Notebook" is especially good.

Also, I've enjoyed reading mystery/suspense novels from an ADPi author, Gayle Lynds.

I've been reading "Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess UP Their Lives" by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. I highly recommend it!!!

"The Notebook" is very good....and anything else by Nicholas Sparks. I also like Nora Roberts and Jude Devereaux novels---if you like romances, these two authors are very good.

I would agree!

If you like girly fiction-- I recommend any book by Jane Green and and Sophie Kinsella (especially the Shopaholic series)!!

They are all fun books-- you can usually relate to one or more characters in the book or you know someone like them!! Just go to any book seller online or store-- shoot you don't even need to buy them-- my local library carries some of them so maybe you can check yours out!

If you like funny books I would go with "Diary of a Mad Bride to Be" and "Diary of a Mad Mother to Be".

Second the fact that Harry Potter comes out on Saturday.

"Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" by Nicholas Sparks is very good.

If you like fanfiction, I know some good Buffy books. LOL. :D

YES, YES, YES it is!! I read it when it first came out. I also went and saw the movie a few weeks ago. It was really cute.
Also, if you have not read The Notebook but did see the movie- RUN to your nearest bookstore and buy the book. It is a million times better. That's another book I read years ago when it came out. I have read it at least 10 times. The movie leaves so much out and even is inaccurate at times relative to the book. Happy reading!

All excellent suggestions. :) A few of my own....

Since we are in the ADPi forum, if you are interested in work done by sisters, try something by Carol Shields - The Stone Diaries won the 1995 Pulitzer. Another new book is Ten Minutes from Normal by Karen Hughes, but you'll probably want to make that decision yourself based on your political leanings! I haven't read it yet myself to recommend or not....

Then some other stuff I've read recently and enjoyed: Girlie stuff - Bergdorf Blondes, Something Borrowed, Chloe Does Yale, The Devil Wears Prada, The Nanny Diaries (but their followup, Citizen Girl, SUCKS). The Right Address and Wolves in Chic Clothing are from the same authors and are good reads.

I've also read all the Dan Brown books. Anxiously awaiting the new one set in Washington DC!

A really neat book is Love, Ronnie - It is Ronald Reagan's personal letters to Nancy. It came out 3 or so years ago but is very touching and not political. Just a man's thoughts and feelings to his wife.

I've just started "The Devil Wears Prada/" Will let you know what I think. And ditto on Maeve Binchy, Jude Devereaux, Nora Roberts, Nicholas Sparks. I just finished "Ya-Yas in Bloom" by Rebecca Wells. Very good!

ADPiAkron 07-14-2005 04:31 PM

I loved the Devil Wears Prada and Nanny Diaries!! I wanted to reach in those books and shake the mean people-- like the boss in DWP and the mom in NDs!!

I do suggest all the books in the Ya-Ya group....read Little Altars Everywhere first....then Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (waaaaaaay better than the movie)....and you can read Ya-Yas in Bloom anytime (it includes stuff that is pre-Divine Secrets and post-Divine Secrets)!!!

I am currently reading a book about certain medical issues...but am rushing to finish it so I can clear my mind for the best saturday delivery I will ever get---

HARRY POTTER 6!!!!!!!!!!
