Northeast Weekend Trips
Hello all. My best friend and I wanna take a trip to a city to a town for a weekend. Since we're both NYC babies, we can't drive and will be taking Greyhound. Does anyone have any ideas for some fun, nearby places that we could go to for a weekend? Thanx!

Depends on what kind of trip you're looking for:
Boston - fun for a weekend, lots of places to eat/things to do/sites to see. If you decide on Boston, I can send you a bunch of ideas, based on costs, etc. New Hampshire - if you want something with a little more nature, it can be very relaxing Cape Cod - the beaches can get packed this time of year, but still a fun place to spend some time in the sun. Also some good restaurants. You could do a trip over to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket as well, although you'd have to factor in ferry trips (both in terms of cost and time). |
Also, if you're interested in going to Boston, I believe the Chinatown bus is only $10-15.

Definitely think about Boston. It's a great city. :) |
I need to get away myself from NYC!!!! I am not taking my official vacation until September :( but my boss keeps telling me to go to the "Thousand Islands" for a long-weekend trip. Never have been there, has anyone else?

Newport, Rhode Island is a nice weekend trip. So is the Jersey shore from what I have heard.

I personally think Stowe and Burlington VT are great places. But I live in Boston and am from RI so those places bore me.
If you like the beach, Narragansett is nice too. Much better beaches than Newport if you ask me. Newport is way over-rated. |

The problem I have is that having lived in Boston for a few years, it's tough to put myself in the shoes of someone who is visiting. I feel like I take a lot of the places and sites here for granted. You're probably right about the Fung Wah bus not stopping - that price has to come with some inconveniences. |
I went to cape cod last summer and LOVED it.

If you really want out of the city, rent a car and go to Lancaster, PA. It doesn't get much more country than that! I don't know if there's bus service from NYC, and I know there isn't easy public transportation in Lancaster (unless you want to take a horse & buggy) but it's fun!
Or Atlantic City. |

If you do decide on Boston, I'm sure plenty of us can help you come up with ideas to do in the city! |

I will say I haven't spent too much time in Vermont, despite being a lifelong New Englander. People I know who travel there seem to have taken a liking to it. |
Thank you everyone, I talked to my best friend, and as of right now, our #1 choice is Boston, followed by Rhode Island.
