Praying that it blows out to see someewhere :(

Yeah, it is at that point of no return. It has to hit the U.S. somehow. In that position, it is next to impossible for the storm to turn east. It feels as if the time in between hurricane seasons gets smaller and smaller. :(

My husband's little brother is getting married in Acapulco tomorrow. One of his other brother's left yesterday, and he told us the weather there has been AWFUL. I feel so bad for them, but I'm kind of glad we weren't able to go now!

We've had a bunch of close calls, but luckily the last one that hit us was Iniki way back in 1992 [and `Iwa in 1982].

Still, my mom swears by our survival kit. You never know...so we're better off being prepared!

Honeykiss1974 07-08-2005 05:57 PM

I hear ya Tom. Except here, you carry a cold/congestion about 9 moonths out of the year from the extreme temp changes or constant attack of allergies. LOL

But real, yall are in my prayers. I understand Florida is in a state of emergency.

Munchkin03 07-08-2005 06:51 PM

Casa Munchkin is in the projected path of Dennis the Menace (as the silly weather guys have been calling it). Mandatory evacuations were announced for those on the Gulf as of this AM--the family has already gone. It's really hard to get hotel rooms anywhere in the Southeast.

sucks....i'm planning on being in AL and FL in 2 wks......sucks sucks. my plan was to be in ft. walton, mobile, and then later new orleans.....fun times. i hate it when i see mobile on the weather channel. :(

ZTAngel 07-08-2005 07:05 PM

I saw a bunch of Florida license plates on my drive home today. I'm guessing a lot of Floridians are fleeing to the Atlanta area. That's what I did last year when Frances came through!

ZTABullwinkle 07-08-2005 07:27 PM

Tom-

I'll take hurricanes over a tornado ANY DAY!

My thoughts are with the Floridians who are ONCE again in the hurricane's path.

Hurricanes = long weekends
(Ivan=5 day weekend, but the LSU game was still on; Dennis=3 day weekend right after a holiday weekend)

I swear, between having a 5-day weekend for the 4th of July and now at least a 3-day weekend for Dennis, it's going to be the death of my work ethic. Nothing makes me more worthless than a long weekend.
My parents wanted me to go home, but alas, I have to take I-65 south for a few miles in Montgomery to do so, and as of 6 this morning, all 4 lanes are northbound between Mobile and Montgomery.

Work was a mess today, as everyone with flights in/out/via the MSY, RSW, TPA airports scrambled around to change or check on their flights.

Good times. I'm sure it'll be even better tomorrow.

We had to drive down to Gulf Shores for a wedding this past Friday. We checked into hotel on Thursday night, and watched Dennis after dinner. Friday morning, they started voluntary evacuations of the area. After wedding, my mom, who had just gotten back from Tallahassee, said not to drive over to Fort Walton Beach and was worried that we might not be able to get out Saturday morning b/c of traffic. 15 minutes later, after we leave the Gulf Shores area, she calls back---oh, get gas if you can. There isn't any in our area. Well, of course, I tried to get gas and EVERY gas station for 20 miles was out of gas. Finally found some in Pensacola Beach and filled up. Continued over to FWB, and luckily, weather was okay. When we left this morning ( Saturday) we decided not to take I-65 b/c they had turned the South bound lanes north for the now mandatory evacuation of all areas south of I-10 in Alabama. Took a smaller hwy and had not problems...traffic on I-65 from Mobile to Montgomery was awful from what I heard from other folks. 150 miles of bumper to bumper.

Parents are not thrilled about Dennis...Mom JUST had the roof fixed three weeks ago from Ivan!

ragtimerose 07-10-2005 08:32 AM

I evacuated for Ivan, but am staying put for Dennis...unless my dad and his gf have other ideas. I'm in New Orleans, and I've been through the worst of 'em: Betsy, Camille, Andrew, Georges...the list goes on.

I've got a friend in Ft. Walton Beach who's staying put, also, in case he gets called into work and has to fix computer systems.

I'm pretty high and dry...for now.
