Roomba

Does anyone have a Roomba? Do you like it? What is, in your opinion, the good/bad aspects of a Roomba? Do they work well?
What should one consider before purchasing a Roomba? What do the "walls" do?

I got one for Christmas. It's pretty cool. Works well for weekly upkeep, but I wouldn't recommend using it if your floors are really dirty. And if you're a girl with long hair, be careful. If there's a lot of loose hair on your floors, it gets caught up in the brushes and is a pain in the butt to get out. But overall, it's a cool (and functional) toy. The "walls" are just infrared beams to keep the Roomba from going anywhere you don't want it to go.

We have one and I loved it at first. Loved it. I mean, what's not to love -- it's really cute and takes care of my least favorite job ever. However, after a few months, it somehow got caught up with something and now the little brush thingie doesn't spin any more so it doesn't work. I'm bummed.

Those things freak me out for some reason...

I loved my Roomba when I bought it. It was great for a couple of months just for regular cleaning. If there was a lot of dirt it didn't work that great.
The concept is great--- who really likes to vacuum anyway? But I ended up returning mine.
The one thing that bothered me was the charge time. It took awhile to charge, charge would last 2 hours, and my house is too big to vacuum in one charge. I was spending more time charging it than I wanted.

HOWEVER, the one reason I regret returning it, and would repurchase is for my hardwood floors. The roomba is the BEST ever on hardwoods.

It seems to take way too long and be a lot less convenient than a dustbuster.

But it is a cute little robot.

How much are they? Is 129.99 a good deal for a roomba, two walls, a remote, and a wall hanger?

Any updates on this? Anybody try one in the past year or so? How does it get around furniture, like a dining room set?

It "memorizes" your floorplan so that it avoids furniture. Like everyone else though, at first its a great gadget, but I've found just a few minutes with my Dyson is more effective.
