KAPsi UL-L hazers suspended
Fraternity suspended for hazing on ULL's campus _
LAFAYETTE, La. When Kappa Alpha Psi (SIGH) fraternity members return to classes this fall at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, they won't be able to meet as a fraternity on campus. Director of Greek Affairs, Dean Pat Cottonham, says the chapter has been suspended for breaking the university's hazing policies. The violations involved include holding unregistered events off campus after midnight and making pledges do exercises. Cottonham says officials recently wrapped up an investigation of the incidents that happened in late March and she says the office is in the process of tracking down members to let them know the investigation's outcome. She says there will be chapter discipline and individual sanctions taken but would not release details until all involved are notified. The chapter in question is small, with 15 members and a pledge class of ten in the spring. Cottonham says the fraternity was last disciplined in 1985. Cottonham says the chapter may be eligible to return to campus on probation status by mid-spring 2006. Before the end of the spring semester, Sigma Alpha Epsilon -- one of the three previously suspended fraternities -- reopened its house on fraternity row. Two other houses -- Sigma Nu and Phi Kappa Theta -- remain closed for hazing suspensions last year. Kappa Alpha Psi does not have a house on the campus' fraternity row. |
