Just saw Closer

What a waste of time. Only good thing about the movie is having Natalie Portman in the strip club.

Dudes, I watched this movie with my parents. Dad rented it because he heard it was good and I watched it with them one weekend when I went to visit. This family time ranks in my top 5 most awkward moments.

My mum and saw it when it first came out. at the end of the movie we were both like WTF???

Neither one of us got it.

And the only good thing about the movie is Clive Owen...yumm!

I watched closer and I got it

I had to see it again in order to get the ending....

The ending was that she (Natalie Portman's character) actually told Larry (Clive Owen, yum) the truth when he kept asking for her name...which is Jane.

She started off telling Dan (Jude Law, yum) the lie, she found the name Alice in that cemetery (where all the "plaques" were located), so basically the relationship was doomed. Alice/Jane is a detached person and doesn't carry the "baggage" with her

or at least that is what I got from the movie, besides the haunting song "Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice.

I loved it a lot. But I'm a sucker for love, deception, and all things Natalie Portman. And Jude Law. Yum.

Plus, I thought it was beautifully done.

hahahahahahaha

I just finished watching this. Trust me when I say it resonates a lot more if you watch it after a breakup. I've loved some Mike Nichols movies and hated others, so I was glad I liked this one.

But I really, really, REALLY wanted some naked Clive Owen and Jude Law (who looked so cute with those glasses on I couldn't stand it). The one quick shirtless scene didn't cut it.

Oh, and if you have cybersex regularly, you might not want to watch this movie (unless you want to break the habit).

I liked it too!

I too actually really liked it.

I was all about Clive Owen (OMG he's gorgeous, but yeah he could have been a bit more naked. LOL)

I think what I liked was the honesty, so to speak, about the movie. I think the movie pretty accurately showed what having an affair does to a relationship. What lying does to a relationship. These four people ruined each others lives. It's not a happy movie by any stretch of the imagination.

Plus, I think the acting is incredible.

Natalie Portman is amazing (which I guess, even though it came out earlier, makes up for her lack of anything in Star Wars). This movie showed what a gifted actress she is.

Clive Owen was also amazing. You watch the two US movies he has done thus far (King Arthur and this one) and you see how versatile he is.

Even though I liked it, it's not a movie I'd want to own. It's like Passion of the Christ, where you really only can watch it one time because it's just so depressing. Movies like this tend to zap my energy. I walked out of the theater sad because the is depressing.

[mini hijack] On a seperate but ironic note, in King Arthur he falls for Kiera Knightley's character and in Closer he sleeps with Natalies character. Anyone notice how similiar Kiera and Natalie are. For those Star Wars fans Kiera actually played the Queen Amidala double in episode one. Six degrees of Star Wars here I come [end mini hijack]

anyways, there are my thoughts.

I agree with you. I loved the movie, but it is a very jaded view of love, one that I hope I never have! Seeing it twice was plenty for me.

It was interesting to say the least... the only thing my sister/roommate and I took away from it was the quote: lying's the most fun a girl can have with her clothes on...

Rudey 07-06-2005 10:50 AM

This was one of the best movies of the year.

If all movies were at least as dark as this, I'd be in heaven.

It was really good - and very disturbing...which I guess was the exact intent.... I really liked the ending scene with Natalie Portman
