Is it worth it to buy an Aerobed?
 

To sleep on regularly?

Not the travel one, the one actually MADE for the bedroom.

I would say no.

My former roommate had one and she had to blow it up every night because it was always deflating.

It just didn't seem worth it.

Just spend the extra $75-125 and get a real bed. Even one of the shitty foam beds IKEA sells would be better than an AeroBed as far as getting a good night's sleep.

I agree with what everyone has said. I'm subleasing a house for just the summer and I decided to just use my queen sized Aerobed rather than bringing in a bulky mattress. It works fine for me, but most guys are much to tall to fit comfortably. I've also found that I have to scoot myself down a little towards the foot of the bed to be in a place where my back is comfortable. If you're any taller than me at 5'5'', I don't think you'd enjoy it at all.

Bottom line: they're good for a spare if you have a bunch of company in town, for short people or kids to sleep on. I would not buy one for permanent use.

I tried the Aerobed thing and had the same weird problem. I always felt like I was falling off my bed and it kept deflating. So not worth it. Now I have a memory foam mattress topper (from Costco) and it's awesome. I have a good mattress to begin with but this gives the extra ooomph of a really good bed. I think they're about $125 for a queen size. Totally worth it. :D

I used to sell the things. I'd say no -- they're good for guests, they beat the hell out of sleeping on the floor, but an old fashion box & spring matress beats all hell out of these things any day.

Hmmm...I personally like inflatable beds, they're very comfortable to me. But since everyone's against it, I'd say strike a compromise: just buy a mattress and leave it on the floor.

I did sleep on an Aerobed as my actual bed for about a year and a half. After my sophmore year in college, I couldn't sleep on my mattress at home because it was really old and I had strained my back. My parents were too cheap to buy me a new mattress, so they bought an Aerobed. We got the Deluxe Twin and got an eggcrate to put on top of it and placed it ontop of my boxspring. It was the most comfortable bed I had slept on to date. I spent two summers like that and my senior year in college. We couldn't bring the boxspring to my apartment, but we brought the frame and got a large piece of plywood to add some support. My parents finally bought me a "big girl bed" (brand new queen) last fall when I graduated and got a full time job. The Aerobed isn't for anyone, but I had grownup with crappy old mattresses, so I wasn't spoiled by good mattresses.

I'd say only if you really need the space a mattress would otherwise take up. Then by all means!
