Website Question
Hello!
While looking through all the AGD website to get ideas for my chapter's, I was wondering if anyone regulates the content of the websites (ex. guys in pictures, alcohol, things that would not reflect positive images). With our campus, there are strict rules about what can be in our chapters' websites; so is it more of something that a campus Panhellenic regulates? I just noticed that there where pictures and stuff that I would never consider positing on ours or even be allowed to. Do you know if anyone regulates them? Just curious... |
As far as official positions go, I'm pretty sure that IHQ doesn't have a specific person that goes through every chapter website to make sure that it's in keeping in accordance with the best interest of the Fraternity. Still, that's why we have to put the disclaimer somewhere on the main page clearly stating that contents do not officially reflect the views and opinions of the Fraternity.
I don't even really see it as campus Panhellenic's responsbility either. I think as members/officers/advisors we're really the ones who should be held responsible and accountable for the content of our chapter sites. I don't really see a need for anyone to be "policing" the sites since we all should have a good knowledge of appropriate and inappropriate. Basically, if you think a picture might raise an eyebrow or two and it might be questionable, your best bet would be not to post it. While there isn't anyone "officially" regulating the websites, remember that we have IHQ/VST/International Council sisters who go online frequently. If they find something in poor taste that's somehow related to the Fraternity, rest assured that the involved party will be contacted ASAP. This isn't just limited to chapter sites either. This also goes for personal websites, LiveJournals, GREEKCHAT! etc. -- ANYTHING that might contain the Alpha Gamma Delta name. And there are a lot of big squirrels visiting these sites. Trust me. ;) |
Look in the Operations Team Handbook for the Publications Coordinator section on doing newsletters, also checkout the Alpha Gamma Delta Stylebook which is in there too, for proper terminology.
Visit other chapters' websites for a sample of the Alpha Gam Disclaimer...which basically says that anything on that page is not official Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity communication. |

It is in my 1/99 version, lol. ;)

on a side note - i have heard of some college panhellenics that occasionally review chapter sites and make recommendations regarding information and pictures - especially near recruitment time...

My college panhellenic went through each chapters' websites including any information we give about recruitment, history, members, and pictures to make sure we were "recruitment friendly." Most of the changes needed for the chapters on campus were getting rid of/cropping pictures where you could see guys or other non-NPC things in the backgrounds.

No guys in pics? So girls can't have pictures of themselves with their dates for formals? What about philanthropy events with ABC fraternity?

Recruitment info and pictures, I can understand because CPH wants everyone on a clean and even slate. But how in the world would you ever have an unfair disadvantage over the rest of the sororities by including information about Alpha Gam History? If it's on the IHQ website, then why wouldn't you be able to include it onto the chapter's? I'm sorry, that's just dumb. |
Sorry...no, they don't regulate the information--just that there isn't names of people who are involved in recruitment or pictures that just happen to be on the pages. Sorry, it was a bad example.

I know that last year at my school, they removed the links to the sororities' chapter webpages and kept the IHQ ones. I don't know if that was because some sororities had their pages finished before others.
Student Servces/Greek Life does review Greek chapter websites. |
