Since the AOPi chapter at our school has a house we make sure that it's in the panhell rules that all parties must be hosted on campus so that there is no unfair advantage. We're careful to choose rooms that aren't really classroomy, for instance there is a coffe bar that has comfy couches and is a really cool atmosphere that we use when we can. When we have to use classrooms we spend extra time on the decirations to make it seem more welcoming and less like a classroom. Last year I foulnd that things that worked the best were, lots of fabric to cover the tables, candles or little table lamps instead of the harsh overhead lights and girls brought bean bag chairs or other comfy chairs and blankets to use when we did stuff like watch a movie or philanthropy stuff that required sitting. |
I was wondering about this too. We don't have a house, (we just lost our last one) and I for one am kinda worried about recruitment. Being that we are a fraternity makes it tougher. Without a house, we won't be able to have parties(representative of ZBT anyway) and I think we may lose a lot of good guys to other organizations. Currently, all the other fraternities and sororities on campus have a house. We have 10 organizations total, 5 of each. I know that wearing letters around campus can be helpful, anyone have any other ideas?
PS...we didn't lose our house through a conflict with the university or anything, it was a dump and none of the brothers wanted to live there. just clarifying this because it can make a big difference. Our chapter is still in good standing with nationals and the university. |

------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is what you can say to your new members... what you just said above. "the house was not in great shape & we are looking for one currently"--- something like that ;) |
