Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

What a GREAT movie!!! I absolutely loved it.

Jill1228 06-04-2005 06:37 PM

That is one movie I really want to see. I also want to read the book

One day awhile back I was browsing around a Barnes & Noble I saw the display for the book and picked it up. I read about 1/2 of it standing there. I've wanted to finish it ever since, but never picked it up. Maybe I'll do that this week...

I read the first book in the series and really want to read the other 2. I'm glad to hear that there's a movie now!

My daughter has read all 3 books in the series and we're having Mommy-Daughter time to go see it tomorrow. She's very excited!

I'm glad I'm not the only adult who loves these books :) I've gotten all 3 on the days they were released. They are all cheesy (esp. the third one) and I'm worried that the movie won't be as good as the books. I'm glad people who have seen it are liking it, though! I may have to go see it soon :)

pardon the ignorance.

From what I learned in the first half of the first book, there are 4 girls that are best friends. Around age 12 or 13 I guess. They are going to be split up for the summer (vacations, family stuff, etc.) for the first time and want a way to stay in touch.

The 4 girls are very different in personalities, interests, and body shape. But they find these blue jeans that fit all 4 of them perfectly. So they wear them part of the summer and then send them on to the next girl to wear. They have this whole ceremony to declare the sisterhood.

My boyfriend thinks this is the weirdest concept ever. I tried to explain how this is totally what 12 year old girs would do in real life, but he just says there's no way he would share pants with his friends. :p

I thought the movie and the books were both adorable:)

SO i am making a book list for the niece who is going to be 14 in a month. WOuld this series then be good to add to th list for a girl this age?

I am trying to get her to read, with the intent that reading will help her in school and in life. Short version of a slightly longer story.

Thanks for the help. Debbie

Wow! What a movie! I rank it up there with my other favorite "girl friend" movies such as Beachers, Ya-Ya Sisterhood and Steel Magnolias. I cried the whole last 1/2 hour.

My daughter said that they changed one story line significantly but that the rest of it was pretty close to the books. She said that the books went into far more depth, which is usually the case. She really enjoyed the movie though and cried as much as I did.

ETA: Yes, definitely a series to add for a 14 year old girl's reading list.

The books are in the Young Adult section, so they would be perfect for a 14 year old. The stories definitely have morals but aren't really preachy.

I read the first book (stole it from my little sister) and thought it was kind of blah. A lot of people really seem to love these books, so I'm not sure what I'm not getting. That said, I thought the concept was pretty cute and I want to see the movie.

I heard that one of the storylines was changed to make it more "Hollywood friendly," and if what I heard is true, I know I'm going to be disappointed. That plotline was by far the most interesting (at least to me) and well-done in the entire book, and changing it doesn't make any sense to me.
