Female state senator wants to end women's suffrage

TOPEKA, Kan. - A state senator who once said that giving women the vote was a symptom of weakness in the American family now wants to be Kansas' top elections official.

Sen. Kay O'Connor announced Wednesday that she is seeking the GOP nomination for secretary of state next year. O'Connor, 63, has served in the Legislature since 1993.

In 2001, O'Connor received national attention for her remarks about the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1920, which gave women the right to vote.

"I think the 19th Amendment, while it's not an evil in and of itself, is a symptom of something I don't approve of," she said at the time. "The 19th Amendment is around because men weren't doing their jobs, and I think that's sad. I believe the man should be the head of the family. The woman should be the heart of the family."

Hmmm, if that's her stance, then why is she working outside the home herself?

Anyway, I have never heard of this woman before nor her remarks. Looks like she is from Tom Earp's area, so I blame Kansas City for voting her in! :D LOL

I noticed she was from Topeka... the home of the Westboro Baptists...

Now is there something I'm missing - or does the area just by chance produce crackpots?

PS> If she's against women's sufferage... then doesn't that mean she's against herself even being in or running for office?:p

Kansas state senator doesn't really sound that powerful or prestigious.

I think that people are inferring something that wasn't meant.

On the other hand, the term "Reactionary" doesn't do this lady justice.

Tell her that her husband is more qualified.

Does she have a husband?

If she doesn't think women should vote, she shouldn't be running for senator.

My next door neighbors, while nice people, are the type of people who vote people like her in. My dad always regrets the time that he didn't "take care of" O'Connor when she mistakenly knocked on our door looking for our neighbors...<sigh> what a missed opportunity.

oh and by the by, topeka and KCK are definately not one and the same...don't ever make that comparison again.

O'Connor's remark:

is totally incomprehensible for someone in political office. She should be taken over someone's knee and given a good old fashion spanking. If she wants to think like a five year then she should be treated like one. Oh for Rodney et al. the "spanking" comment does not refer to any type of sexual activity that occurs between consenting adults. I know you would have a hard time not responding from reading some of your prior posts. ;)
