Recolonized Chapter
The Delta Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order received its Charter renewal as an active chapter at Murray State University (Kentucky) with initiation being last weekend - May 20th & 21st.
Fraternities are doing very well at Murray State. With the return of Kappa Alpha - the second fraternity to recolonize at Murray State this semester - this brings the current total of fraternities on the MSU campus to fifteen: ten IFC and five NPHC chapters. And two more fraternities are currently colonizing at Murray State as well! Chapters AGR ASF ATW AFA IFQ KA KAY LCA PKA SP SFE SC FBS FKT WYF Colonies KS TKE (recolonizing) |
That is wonderful news! Do you know offhand which Panhel sororities have chapters there?

LOL - I was going to say ADPi, because you can't open one of our Adelpheans without reading about Murray State! I think they have to win a yearly award for best reporting.
As for my own chapter, they'd win an award for the worst! Congratulations to KA Order & TKE!! |

Congratulations to KAPPA ALPHA ORDER on Their ReChartering.
There really are some pluses in GreekDom! |
OK, dumb question time....Kappa Alpha Order, and Kappa Alpha Society. Did they branch out from eachother? Or do they just happen to share letters and have no historical ties? I know their pins are different and all that...just seeing what the brilliant historians of GC know about this.

Kappa Alpha Society was founded at Union College in Schenectady, New York in 1825 and is the oldest of the existing social fraternities. Kappa Alpha Order was founded at Washington College - now Washington & Lee University - in Lexington, Virginia in 1865 and originally was called Phi Kappa Chi. An interesting historical tidbit is that soon after the founding of Phi Kappa Chi, the members changed their name to Kappa Alpha Order. Largely due to a request by Phi Kappa Psi fraternity that already existed on campus. The general feeling was that the letters of the two groups were 'too similar'. So ironically, there are now two different social fraternities with the same Greek letters - Kappa Alpha Society and Kappa Alpha Order. |
Hijack:
Are there any schools with both KA Order and KA Society? |
Yes, but not that many.
KA Society is till quite small compared to other Mens GLOs! Most if not all of the Union Triad GLOs felt that they did not have to expand untill the last Some Years. Kind of a Grow or Semi Die. Check Union Triads and see what it will give you. (Trinity College). The History Of GreekDom is Wide and various.:) Sorority Founded in Arkansas, Fraternity Founded In Missouri.:D Aint all founded in the East! |

According to both web sites, the only campus where both fraternities currently have a chapter seems to be Princeton University. I did notice that there is an active chapter of Kappa Alpha Order on the University of Virginia campus and that at some point, Kappa Alpha Society had a chapter there as well. However, I do not know if they were ever at UVa at the same time. FYI: The Kappa Alpha Order site does not list their dormant chapters, so I can not tell if there are any other campuses where both fraternities have had a chapter. |
I'll bet that is confusing!
Hey I'll meet you at the KA house! Which one? |
