This is Hulene "Mickey" Fitzpatrick, the Supreme Queen. Boy, I'd like to be called the Supreme Queen of something! That's way better than just being Queen. Can anyone tell us about the meaning of this, or is it ritual?

Daughters of the Nile, like the Eastren Star are offshoots of the Masonic Organization.
Daughters of the Nile are for women who have husbands, brothers or another male family member in the Shrine. Eastren Star is for women and men who have some affiliation to a Mason in their family.

It is a position of office within the organization. Queen qould be the head of an inividual temple, or chapter and Supreme Queen would be of all the organization.

... I wanna be refered to as the Supreme Queen of the Nile...:)

My mom is a member. The only thing I know that hasn't been said before is that every member is known as "Princess" instead of "Sister". It was very strange growing up and seeing mail addressed to "Princess CougADPi's Mom" :)

That is just freaking awesome. I want a full-fledged crown, too.

To be a Daughter of the Nile, one must be the female relative (by birth or marriage) of a Shriner and be invited to membership. My mother's a member of Shalman Temple #90 in Dallas. Members are addressed by the honorific 'Princess'. Officers in the organization have names inspired by Arabic princesses, while the presiding officer is the Queen. National officers add the title 'Supreme' to their Princess or Queen title.

A similar organization is the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America. Both organizations support the Shrine and their philanthopies.

My fiance's uncle was and still is a Mason & I believe he was a...what do they call them? Grand Masters? I'm not sure but would this qualify me after we're married to be Princess BetteDavisEyes?

As in a sorority or fraternity, unless you disaffiliate you are a lifelong member.

It is any relation by marriage or birth to a male who is a member of the Masonic Lodge for Eastren Star, however in order to qualify for Daughters of the Nile you need to have a male who is related by birth or marriage be apart of the Shrine which is a higher level of Masonry, but in some respects functions as a seperate entity with their own Supreme Council etc.

Also you have to have that Shrine member which you are related to, or a woman who is already a member invite you to join. Since no man can join the Shrine until they have reached s cretain degree in Freemasonry, the youngest members of the Shrine are usually in their late 40's so the Daughters of the Nile is predominantly a group of older/mature women as is the Star.

While there may be a few odd younger members it is not prominent due to the existence of organizations such as Job's Daughters and Rainbow Girls which are for the younger relatives.

My family has been Masonic, every male a Mason and most females in the Star or one of the other associate groups for at least the last three generations.

Just 'Masons'. Depending on the office they hold in the lodge, they may have the following titles:

Worshipful Master
Senior Warden
Junior Warden
Senior Deacon
Junior Deacon
Senior Steward
Junior Steward
Secretary
Treasurer
Master of Ceremonies
Marshal
Chaplain
Tiler

Grand Lodge officers (statewide) add the title 'Grand' to the above titles (Example: Grand Senior Deacon) except for Worshipful Master; the title for the state presiding officer is the Grand Master.

Just like membership in a fraternity or sorority, 'once a Mason, always a Mason', as long as membership is not suspended or the member is expelled.

Not all Shriners are THAT old... :D I walked the 'hot sands' at Akdar Shrine in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 36, and I've participated in the initiation, passing and raising of Masons and Shriners as young as 21. Membership in the Shrine only now requires that one is a Master Mason; previousy, one had to have received the 32nd degree in the Scotrtish Rite or the Order of the Temple in the York Rite.

What does this have to do with alumni involvement?

Some people prefer the alumni experience by joining another organization along with their fraternity/sorority. I've met many a Mason/Eastern Star who are proud members of their collegiate organizations.
