Pat Tillman's Parents unhappy with Army...

Excerpt from the Washington Post:

Tillman's Family Critical of Army Investigation

WASHINGTON (May 23) - The family of former professional football player Pat Tillman says the Army disrespected his memory by lying in its investigation of his death in Afghanistan last year.

In interviews with The Washington Post, the Army Ranger's mother and father said they believe the military and the government created a heroic tale about how their son died to foster a patriotic response across the country.

''Pat had high ideals about the country; that's why he did what he did,'' Mary Tillman told the Post. ''The military let him down. The administration let him down. It was a sign of disrespect. The fact that he was the ultimate team player and he watched his own men kill him is absolutely heartbreaking and tragic. The fact that they lied about it afterward is disgusting.''

DeltAlum comment:

I feel compelled to comment because of the many threads taking the "media" to task for negativity, mistakes, cynicism (or lack of) and other alleged wrongdoing.

The fact is that the government (any government) uses the media whenever it can get away with it. When you look at how the military controls coverage -- going way back to the now infamous "five o'clock follies" in Vietnam, it's no wonder that journalists are skeptical.

Incidents like the Rather/Bush and more recent Newsweek debacles are unexcusable, but much of the critism leveled against journalism is as well.

In fact, it's often not much more than public relations and damage control.

DA, will you please post a link to the article? Thanks.

Since DA hasn't posted it yet... the above is a link to the Associated Press posting on Yahoo.

Quite frankly this story has been brewing for a while - with the family being unhappy at both the cover-up and investigation into Pat's death... as well as the appearance that the Administration/Pentagon did this in order to minimize a PR-fallout -or- more likely to spin in into a PR bonanza (which it was until the true circumstances came out).

Thanks Rob,

I picked it up from the AOL home page, so I couldn't post that link, and hadn't gotten around to looking for it in the online version of the newspaper.

Seems to be a lot of FooPahs from the Military.

Pat Tillman for one, Sadam Huessan in BVDs, Prison abuse, and NewsWeeks Qu'ran for others.:(

Makes one wonder who these geniuses are putting this information out to the press. Physco Nuts for sure. Send them back to School and have them Rush a GLO! Learn something.

The other option would be to tell the truth.

But nobody does that anymore.

Don't think that would work. The White House spokesman is a SigEp.

Scott McClellan, the Press Secretary? He also had many 1-on-1 meetings with the gay prostitute he let in the White House.

Nothing wrong with being gay. We at Sigma Phi Epsilon does not discriminate based on sexual orientation. Well, we aren't supposed to.

no, just noting the hypocrisy of the "Family Values" administration letting a guy have a prostitute in the White House.
