Cats/Crystals
I found out last night my 5-year-old male cat has crystals that have been causing him recurring UTI's. The vet office called and said he doesn't need surgery thankfully for him and my budget but he will need to be placed on a prescription diet starting today. The vet wasn't available to ask any questions yesterday, so I am reaching out to any of you who may have dealt with this condition before. How much does the food generally cost? The girl told me on the phone he won't need to have any meds/antibiotics either. Just curious about what I am in for.

This is extremely commom condition for male kitties!
Though I'd be very pissed off that your vet "didn't have time" for you and your questions. The food is no big deal. You must keep him on it for the rest of your life and if you have other kitties they may need to be fed separately. DEMAND that your vet speaks to you. And, while my kitties don't need this food (knock on wood) you may be able to get some from Pet Smart, etc but through your vet is probably the best bet even though it may be more expensive than your typical Nine Lives type food. Good luck with your kitty! |
My male kitty also had this problem as a youngster, and since then I've fed him the hard Purina cat food for "Urinary Tract Health." It really isn't that much more expensive than regular food. Also, make sure that he always has fresh water available.
