Greek Affairs position
I was wondering if anyone knew of any openings in Pennsylvania at a college or university for a Director of Greek Affairs or something in Greek Affairs? I just graduated from college and would be extremely interested in a job in Greek Affairs. I was president of my sorority (Alpha Sigma Tau, Beta Epsilon chapter) as well as the Fundraiser Chair for Pan Hel and I was a Recruitment Counselor during formal rush.

its not pennsylvania
but florida gulf coast university in estero, florida(halfway between naples and ft. myers) may be looking for a greek life advisor. their greek life advisor recently resigned.

I think West Virginia Wesleyan may need one, Buckhannon, WV. I hear that they are thinking of promoting their current to the Dean of Students position. Then they'd need one.

University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT has the Greek Advisor position open!

Do you have your Master's? Most Greek Life positions I've seen posted require a graduate degree, typically in college student personnel.
Check out this thread for more info. |
Hello my AST sister!!! I graduated from the Alpha Gamma chapter in Arkansas, but I'm now working as a Greek Advisor in Virginia.
I would check out www.higheredjobs.com. You can search by state. Depending on the university, you may not be able to get a Director position with just a Bachelors, however you might be able to get something in the Student Affairs office (or working with just one council instead of all of them) with a Bachelors. Or get a different job at a school (like Admissions or something) and become heavily involved with the Greek system to get some experience. Are you looking at getting a Master's degree anytime soon? PM me anytime you want!! Tau Love, PsychTau |
Good Luck!!
I looked a little bit for a position in that field. Did you apply to be an EC? They still have the announcement up on the Nat'l site. It's not the same, but it is something. higheredjobs has a ton of stuff, and some great leads. Good luck and come over to the AST forum to say hi! There are a few of us in Philly that get together occasionally. :) Tau Love E |

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was just about to go and rustle up that thread! As I said there, "If you are interested in pursuing a career in student affairs, check out http://www.naspa.org and http://www.myacpa.org for more info!" I work for Fraternity and Sorority Life at San Diego State University and I can tell you that even our Greek Life interns are Master's degree candidates. :o PS - we have a postsecondary/higher ed master's degree at SDSU - PM me if you're interested! .....Kelly :) |
at fgcu
the greek life advisor was held by a masters degree recipient. her duties also included being judicial affairs advisor and for a while they were thinking of separating the two advisorships so that there would be two positions. don't know if that is still the plan. at times she had two assistants, who were "student interns"-students who were interested in getting their masters after graduation and becoming greek life advisors. i think that the nearest masters program is at u of south florida in tampa. fgcu has a fairly new greek system, and has 3 sororities(zta, tri delta and delta sigma theta) and 3 fraternities(kappa alpha, pi kappa alpha-a colony, and kappa alpha psi)-no greek housing. fgcu held their first formal sorority recruitment last winter and are switching to delayed fall recruitment this fall, which should be very interesting with no greek life advisor!!

Just because you asked (and regardless of your degrees)...I have a feeling that Penn State might be needing a greek advisor. Their current greek advisor had applied for a position with CSUF and while she didnt get it (unfortunately) she might have applied elsewhere...

I realize a lot of larger schools do want master's degrees for this position. However, if you look at smaller lib arts schools with smaller greek life communities, they do not all require a master's. It is a little late in the spring to find a ton of openings. If you are interested, there is a conference in Oshkosh, WI in March called the Oshksoh Placement Exchange. It is a ton of schools and tons of applicants who convene for a weekend of intense interviews. There were a number of greek life positions there that were hired. If you are interested next year, that could be a great option. There is another one somewhere on the east coast...not sure where though...

I believe Boston University is looking to fill a position in Greek Affairs as well-

SAN ANTONIO
St. Mary's University in San Antonio is conducting a search for a Residence Hall Director whose dual assignment will be advising the College Panhellenic Council. Position is Bachelor's Required, Master's Preferred.
I'm a Hall Director with IFC as my dual assignment--I only have a BA. The closing date on the position has passed, but I have no idea what the candidate field looks like...not privy to that info, yet. If it's not acceptable, it could be reposted soon. Check out www.stmarytx.edu or www.studentaffairs.com |
