Tax refund: Thanks, but what the??
I got my refund check back today - and it is over $150 MORE than it was supposed to be. I got a "Notice 54" with it that said I'd get a notice in a few days telling why it's different, what (if any) additional info I had to give to the IRS and that I SHOULD NOT CALL with questions until I get the notice. Then it goes on to say if I'm sure it's too high, I should write them a letter and if I don't return the check, I'll owe interest.
What the hell?? I really really need to cash this check NOW, but I'm afraid to do anything. Has this ever happened to anyone else? |
Id cash it. Obviously they have already crunched the #'s and they like theirs better than they do yours, so let the party begin. I paid in 26% this year all aroud (Fed and state) and for some unknown Godly reason the feds needed 99 more dollars, and the good Commonwealth of Ky. couldnt function without 284 more dollars from me. Congrats.

Our Friendly IRS at Your Aid!:(
Cash it, and let them prove they fupad up! Oh you will lose of course!:( Keep All Of The Paper Work!!!!!!!!!!!:) |
That happened to me once with the good state of MA. It was my own fault though tried to pretend I knew what the hell I was doing and didnt have anyone check the forms before I mailed it. I somehow came up with owing them 25 bucks and a few months later I got a $175 check in the mail saying they ran the numbers and found a mistake. Only difference was I got a letter with the check explaining exactly where I went wrong, I didnt have to wait so that baby got cashed before the ink was dry.
Hopefully I didnt screw up again this year because I'm sooo looking forward to my $7.10 CA State Tax Return...wooohooo let the partay begin when I get that hefty sum. |
