Dunno Where Else to Ask This...
Ok I've got a question I don't seem to be finding the answer to anywhere.. I'm already a member of a sorority.. my dad who is a Mason would really like me to join the Order of the Eastern Star which is a fraternal organization associated with the Masons. Is there any rule against this? If there isn't any law saying I can't does anyone have an opinion whether it would be a good idea or not. My dad would really like to see me get involved but I don't want it to interfere with the sisterhood I've already pledged myself to.

While I cannot offer any advice/information regarding the specifics of joining/not joining EOS, I would say this:
I believe that one can hold membership in different organizations without lessening the personal significance of any individual organization. |
I believe possible answers can be found in the bylaws or consititution of both organizations. Some groups won't permit their members to take part in other secretive, selective groups
|
I believe that there are women on here who are members of a sorority and of the Order of the Eastern Star. You might try searching on here and see what you get.

I don't think there's any conflict.
A college social sorority (or fraternity, for that matter), and a masonic-related fraternal organization are generally not groups one finds in competition with one another. You should probably check with some local authority (chapter or regional president, perhaps) in one or both organizations, just to be sure, but my guess is that you can probably very easily retain membership in both. |
I am a member of Phi Sigma Sigma, a majority member of Rainbow for girls, and am a member of OES (although not active) No, there shouldn't be any problem. :D

I an not only an Alpha Sigma Phi, but also an active Freemason and line officer (Associate Patron) in the local chapter of OES. Most chapter meetings of OES meet once, maybe twice a month, with an occasional meeting to conduct an initiation; virtually all do not meet on Sundays. I know several brothers and sisters in OES who are active in both their college fraternity and in the Masons/OES. |
I think Brother AlphaSigOU said it all! I am a sorority member and an Eastern Star member, and I do not feel that there is a conflict between the two. In fact, I personally feel that their goals compliment each other and are rather similar.

Thanks for all the info everyone.. my dad was really hoping someone would continue on this family tradition and it makes both of us happy to know it's a possibility.

Has it occured to you to call your organization's HQ? None of us know the by-laws or governing rules of your organization, therefore, none of us are really qualified to advise you here.
