Imposters????
 

Hey y'all!!! I haven't posted on here in forever and I have something that is bothering me so I want to post it. I was just looking through a website that has listings for local sororitites around the country. I found a listing for Sigma Alpha. The university that it is listed at doesn't sound familiar. Isn't there some sort of rule against this???? I was just wondering because it bothered me that someone else was using our sorority's name. OK...I'm done for now. Hope y'all are having a great summer!!!

Alison - You are right, there are rules against that. When you get a chance, can you please forward me the info that you found and the National Board will look into it. We have registered both our crest and our name 'Sigma Alpha,' and any other use is unauthorized. I'm glad you noticed this, and thanks for your help.

While you are at it, you should probably contact the producers of the CBS show "Yes, Dear." The character Greg belongs to a fraternity named, you guessed it, Sigma Alpha. The program that aired last night was sort of benign but still could give people the wrong impression.

With just a quick search on geocities.com I found references to three other Sigma Alphas: a sorority at a private university in Texas, a fraternity at a private university in North Carolina, and an Honorary Engineering Society! It seems like our name is quite popular.

Thanks for the update! I have been working on the private Texas university, but I was unaware of the other two. If you could forward me the website addresses, we will look into them as well.
