Tampa, Florida Greeks!
Calling all Tampa Greeks!
I am going to be in Tampa from June 13th-July 1st for my new job training. I will have a roomie, but won't know who til I get there.... Anything to do in Tampa?? I need some buddies to hang with! I heard ybor city was fun. If anyone has any ideas of stuff I can do on the weekends that would be great! :D |
Ybor is a MUST if you're going to be in Tampa. Since you'll be down there for a while, you'll have plenty of time to hit all the bars/clubs w/o having to hit them all in one night.
Channelside is also fun -- Howl at the Moon is a great bar to hit as your first stop. And for the weekends during the day...the beach of course! Head out to Clearwater and hit Sand Key beach. It's beautiful! It's usually voted as one of the top beaches in the US. Also, if you're interested in history, do a tour of historical Ybor during the day one day -- it's very neat! |
I love Howl at the Moon...we have one here in Louisville at 4th Street Live! 4th street is kinda like Louisville's Ybor city....haha
|
anyone?
Any Floridians want to share their fav hot spots in Tampa or surrounding areas? I will be there for 3 weeks and tend to get bored easily.....
I hope my roomie is fun and close to my age! We'll see! :D |
Tampa sucks
the Devil Rays suck... Alex Sanchez is on roids Lou Pinnella is in the mafia the Tampa Yankees suck The Bucs suck Their lone champion doesnt even play this year Gasparilla aint Mardi Gras the BUlls should be called the cows i don't know why anyone would ever want to go to Tampa that being said...you should have a blast living in Tampa. just don't get shot by a robot in St. P CUH ...and don't let the man get you down |
Tampa things to do!
My B-I-L lives there, so we go down ever year.
There is a wonderful restaurant called "The Dish"--it's sort of a nuevo cuisine place combined with a "stir fry" table--not the right name, but don't know how to describe it otherwise. You get to choose meats, vegetables, etc, then take your pick out of about 15-20 flavored sauces to sautee your food in. They then sautee everyone's food on this HUGE round grill. Neat place. Definitely a lot of clubs to choose from--there are always concerts going on, so check those out while you are there. There are also some great art museums down there as well, if you like that kind of thing. I believe the Salvador Dali museum is there. Casino cruises are okay---only watch out if water is choppy. Busch Gardens is a treat also, if you've never been to one. Good luck, and have fun! |
I have a friend who is doing Teach for America in Tampa. She really likes it there!
|
If you have a lot of money and want one of the best steaks in the world, go to Bern's Steakhouse.
|
Go to Whiskey Park instead of Ybor for going out. All the crackheads and 18-22 yr olds go to YBor. If you're looking to get laid thats definitely your best bet......but everyone is just totally fucked up there (it's like burboun street in new orleans but not as good). And despite cops being on every street corner....it's still not safe. The clubs are ok for central Florida, I love Ampitheatre. But Ybor really isnt my thing anymore when in town. When I lived there, though, it was fun. The only thing I didnt like about the town was the fact that every time I turned around I met some stripper or escort or some other dirty whore.
Now, there is a Casino there that is tight as fuck. 24hr liqour license (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so you can drink till you drop and they have a couple of clubs there that are alright because they don't close. There'll be plenty of people fucked up there....but it's still fun at 5am. And in my view it's the best place to go for afterhours in Tampa. Edited to Add: But in reality, Tampa sucks ass. Go to South Florida (Miami/South Beach-Ft.Lauderdale-DelrayBeach-PalmBeach) if you're up for the drive. Its a total different world. |

Busch Gardens has a water park right across the street called Adventure Island, that's pretty fun. They might have some sort of package ticket for both parks. Channelside is fun for going out. There's a Splitsville, which is a bowling alley/bar. Howl at the Moon, Margarita Mamas and Banana Joes, Stumps Supper Club (kind of an older crowd). A new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino just opened off of I-4 in Tampa, they have slots, bingo and poker I believe. There is also a club in the casino...I heard from Chris on the Apprentice that they have a pretty steep cover charge, though! (J/K He got arrested in the casino for "disorderly conduct" and was supposedly complaining about being charged cover to get into the club after he spent a lot of money gambling). Hyde Park area is a fun place to go out on the weekends. Whiskey Park, The Dublinder, MacDinton's, Macs, they're all a bunch of bars that the 20 something crowd hangs out at. Hope that helps you out, feel free to PM me! Shae P.S. The Tampa Yankees were 2004 State League Champions, thank you very much! P.P.S. People who hate on Tampa will be dealt with by one of Lou Piniella's mafia hit men. |

HYDE PARK--yes that is a great area--very trendy and geared a little more toward the post college crowd. I loved Whiskey Park and you must eat or at least have drinks at Mangrove's--love their martinis. My good friend was living there for a few years--I loved visiting. She lived in the Hyde Park area.
Tampa is a great city, you are going to have a blast--you won't want to leave when your training ends! I keep telling my husband he needs to work on getting transferred there, but I think it will be awhile before that happens:( |
Hey everyone! Thank you so much for the suggestions. I am a little bummbed because my birthday is on June 18th and I will be in Tampa with no friends or family there :(
Oh well, i'll make the most of it I guess. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!!!! YAY!:D |
