Baby shower ideas

Hey, everybody,
My younger (blood, unfortunately not also a SK) sister and her boyfriend/eventual husband are expecting their first child, due in August, and I'm throwing her one of the handful of baby showers she's going to be having -- this one is mostly for our mutual friends (my sister is one of my best friends and has always been part of my "crowd" :) ) and her boyfriend's mom and some of his family. We're going to have it in June, at our new house (we hope!), in the back yard. My sister wants it to be kind of dressy (she really wants everyone to wear Lilly Pulitzer; I bought her a bunch of Lilly maternity stuff, and she wants to show it off) and not really a shower where you play games and stuff, but more of a social event. And that's fine with me; I may be in the minority, but I hate shower games. So my fiance and my best friend and I are going to make lots of finger food type stuff -- little chicken salad sandwiches, and pimento sandwiches, and Vicksburg tomato sandwiches, deviled eggs, sweet tea, lemonade, stuff like that. Does anybody have more ideas for food? I'm not sure how many people I'm actually going to be feeding... at one point we talked about grilling hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone, but somehow I think I'd rather keep it simple and not commit to really feeding all of these people (that way maybe they also won't stay all that long!). My sister just wants this to be a chance for a lot of people she's close to to gather and socialize and sort of celebrate the baby's upcoming arrival rather than a "typical" baby shower, and I think that's fine. I need more food ideas, though!!!

Her two themes in the nursery are (a) ducks and (b) celestial stuff/The Little Prince, everything blue and yellow -- so I'm getting balloons in those colors and was going to get a Little Prince cake, and I thought I'd buy sugar cookies shaped and frosted like rubber ducks. I can't figure out what the hell to do for favors.

Any ideas for favors and more finger food? I have to start planning!!!! :)

Think ahead for any potential vegetarians or people with special dietary needs so a cold pasta salad and/or vegetable platter couldn't hurt.
Also have something sweet on hand b/c we all love our desserts. Cookies, brownies, a cake might all work.

I hope it all turns out great!

Bridal Shower Finger Food

Those are just a couple ideas. It sounds like y'all are gonna have a great time!!!

Thanks for reminding people to remember the vegetarians. I have been to many events where they just don't care. Our chapter usually does a really good job at providing options because in the past we have had numerous vegetarians including myself.

Sorry for crashing, but if you have no vegans, cucumber sandwiches are awesome, when made well. And if you can find a bakery which will make colored bread (you can do your blue & yellow that way), order pullman loaves, sliced both length-wise and horizonally. When you put the sandwiches out on a platter, small bunches of grapes and strawberries really liven it up.

If you don't have someone who makes really good cheese straws, one of the next best things is to roll out frozen phyllo pastry, spread cheese on it, cut into strips, twist, and baked until golden.
