Knitting: new campus fad?
 

_LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Utah State University student Mike Vilven is minding his knitting -- literally. He crochets wristbands for his frat brothers in Sigma Chi. He also made a ski hat he can wear with his Air Force R-O-T-C uniform. Vilven is one of a growing number of young knitters in the Logan, Utah, area. Vilven says needlework is the perfect thing for relaxation. He says it's a way to be productive while doing nothing. Vilven admits he took some ribbing from his frat brothers over his knitting. But Vilven tells the Herald Journal they soon stopped laughing and wanted him to make something for them, too.

In the fall semester, the chapter of KKG here would knit in the freshman girls dorms once a week. They invited the girls to join them and used it as a sort of recruitment event. :) I had a bunch of AXiDs in a class once, and they always used to knit in class. I'm not sure it's a "fad", though.

If I lived in Logan, Utah, I'm sure I'd be knitting too.

Actually, I want to learn how to knit or crochet. It seems like fun.

I love knitting. I've made scarves for a few of my sisters and am working on a blanket for my big.

I too love knitting... I make a lot of presents for people...

I also thought I would add that for a while much of my chapter had been doing needlepoint...

But back to knitting... Currently more people are coming out about doing it and as a result more people are wanting to learn...

My grandmother taught me how when I was a lot younger... but recently I've taken it up again - if only to repair/alter some of the things she knitted me.

I would like to learn, but the people I know who know how to knit can't figure out how to teach a left handed person!

I'm not Greek, and I can't knit (although I'm pretty good at other kinds of arts and crafts), but my friend who IS Greek actually knitted me a pair of slippers. They're really cute :)

I knit... and I enjoy how many teachers are so fascinated by it that they ask me questions about how I learned instead of asking me to stop when I knit in their classes.

I've also seen a few girls knitting during chapter because we all know it can be LONG sometimes! :)

I want to learn! Is it something you can learn from a book or is it better to have some one teach you?

Another knitter here. :) It is very relaxing, right up until you discover you've been decreasing by the wrong amount for the last 20 rows, and you have to rip it allll out and do it again. :p But if you're doing something nice and straightforward, it's a great thing to do with your hands while you're watching TV or chatting with friends.

I LOVE KNITTING! All my things come out lopsided. But, hey, it's so much fun!

A real person is best for learning to knit, but if you're looking for a book, I recommend Stitch n' Bitch: The Knitters' Handbook by Debbie Stoller. I learned from it, and am still picking up useful ideas from it.

a girl on my floor tried to get a "knitting night" on our floor every week. Sadly it never hapned becasue most people are anti school spirit and would never do anything with people from the floor.
