Canadians: PM Speech comments
So PM Paul Martin says that he'll call an election within 30 days after the Gomery Report is published, but he isn't going to stop the opposition from toppling the Liberals before that. What does everyone think about this? Comments on the speech?

No. I don't want another election. we'll either retain the Liberals, and this will have been a complete and uster waste of time and money. or we'll get the Conservatives, and that will be just as bad.
Everyone, vote Green! |
I particulary do not want to go back to the poles right now, especially with the BC Election under way.
Because of this whole mess, I now have no party that I can identify with, but I would probably vote Liberal, just to take one less vote away from the Conservatives. Unfortunately, we will probably end up with a Conservative minority and then that government will fall, and then we will have to vote again. Considering the number of tax dollars that were siphoned into the Liberal party, I believe it will cost us more to hold another election ($250 million, can't remember what the figures are for the sponsorship scandal, so I could be wrong). I just hope parliament waits until the Gomery Inquiry is over - don't want to jump the gun on this thing. I think it's a very bad idea to bring down the current government over the sponsorship scandal before Gomery has made his final decision. Bottom line: I really am not impressed by this situation, but I am really not up for another election so soon. And in a selfish way, us BCer GCers are currently being bombared by election campaigns in BC, so I don't think could take campaigning from both the Federal and Provincial parties, I think my head might explode... |
I think the most interesting polls released where the ones rating the support for both the parties and the party leadership... the results for the Liberals and Martin where almost the opposite of the PCs and Harper: little support trust for Liberals - but strong support for Martin... gaining support for PCs but falling support for Harper....
If both the PCs and NDP keep hammering on the issue I can see an election in the fall... |
