Police are investigating the death of a 19-day-old girl whose grandmother found her wedged between a bed and a wall this morning.

The infant’s mother told police she had been drinking beer for nearly 10 hours before she fell asleep with the baby on her chest, according to a police report. The woman said she started drinking beer at 4 p.m. Tuesday at a park and continued drinking at a bar until 2 a.m.

She guessed she had consumed about 20 beers, according to the report.

The woman said she got home, fed and burped her baby and fell asleep. The woman didn’t wake up until she heard her mother screaming. The baby wasn’t breathing and couldn’t be revived.

Since it was an accident, they dont know if any charges will be filed. I think she ought to be charged with neglegence or something. Had she killed the child by driving drunk, her ass would be in jail for at least, manslaughter or intoxication murder.

Ya'lls thoughts? its not getting a lot of media play here.

:(

Well, if she doesn't get charged, she's gonna have to live with knowing she killed her own child for the rest of her life...

Its a pretty sad way to die ..

That's horrible, she should be charged with something, although they really can't say murder. :(

RedRoseSAI 04-21-2005 11:51 AM

Neglegence or child endangerment, I would say.

You took the words out of my mouth. I would imagine that she'll be on some sort of parole.

Poor baby. :(

I would guess she will get charged with one of the 2 as well, but I can't imagine the guilt she will endure for the rest of her life. The drinking part definitely works against her. This hits home as I have a 4 month old and I used to let her sleep in the bed with me for the first 3 months (against Dr's advice)--I don't know what I would have done had something happened.

What about manslaughter? It was her fault that the baby died but she didn't MURDER it.

That's why I was saying parole of a sort - she should not be doing time!

Jill1228 04-21-2005 02:08 PM

I say get her for negligence.

Even though she won't be doing jail time, she will be doing a life sentence...forever having on her conscience that she was responsible for her baby's death.

Hmm she is out drinking like a fish and had a 19 day old baby? What the hell was she thinking?

citydogisu 04-21-2005 09:17 PM

hmm. Hasn't overlaying been controversial for well over a century?
Could have sworn at one time religious officials condemned the practice.

Thank you! I was wondering if someone was going to bring this up?! What kind of responsible mother gets totally sh*tfaced 3 weeks after her kid is born? I mean come one now...that is just ridiculous.

She'll have to live thinking about it forever? Well she wasn't thinking about her kid when she drank 20 beers, what makes anyone think she would think about it now?

aggieAXO 04-22-2005 01:32 AM

she needs to have her uterus removed so she can't have anymore children

In the Policical Climate of today, it is called Child Endangerment, and it also comes with stiffer fines.

Wow, this makes one think that retro abortion of some of these ass wholes should be in order.

The trouble is, that no one knows for sure who the morons will be.
