I, too, have always thought that she was a member of Zeta. I guess thats just one of those common misconceptions.

She died in 1919. Zeta was founded in 1920.

My cuz...is a member of AKA and she told me so, and I saw a forum the her great-great granddaughter A'Lelia Bundles( member of AKA) did in her honor of her with member of her org. and it was also to promote her book.

Madame CJ Walker is not an AKA, honorary or otherwise, unlike her descendant Soror A'lellia Bundles:)

Thanks for the clarification!

I actually have a book on Zetas that says she is one. We questioned it too because we had never heard of her and sent the people who published the book an email. Their response was that she was an honorary Zeta and it was awarded posthumously after she had died. So if in fact she is not one then this needs to be clarified because it is in a Zeta book.

Interesting, sorta like the Alphas and Frederick Douglass I believe. Just for the record I always believed she was an honorary Zeta, too.

But guess what? She is not listed on their national website as a notable soror, so that should end the discussion. You also know that there are books written about our orgs that were not officially commissioned --right? They tend to have many mistakes in them.

What book are you referring to?

As I stated earlier, she is not a member of Zeta Phi Beta. Honorary or otherwise.

We know what book she does NOT have. ;-)

Sista with the bootleg book about Zeta...throw that book out. It's garbage.
