Time magazine has named what it calls the "five best big city mayors" in America.

The winners are:
New York's Michael Bloomberg
Atlanta's Shirley Franklin
Baltimore's Martin O'Malley
Chicago's Richard Daley
Denver's John Hickenlooper

Gavin Newsom of San Francisco gets an honorable mention.

Time also designated three mayors as the nation's worst:
Detroit's Kwame Kilpatrick
San Diego's Dick Murphy
Philadelphia's John Street

Neither list was ranked, and the mayors were listed in alphabetical order.

The lists appear in the issue of the magazine that hits newsstands Tuesday.

Bloomberg and Murphy are Republicans. All the others are Democrats.

Surprise surprise. Kwame "Thank you for the sweet ride, Detroit" Kilpatrick.

Dick Murphy tried to defend himself, and ended up looking even more like a dimwitted ass.

Of course the San Diego guy would be on the worst mayors list. His first name is Dick. :p

Mike Bloomberg is a Phi Psi from Johns Hopkins. :D

I heard about Kwame aka our Hip Hop Mayor....and it wasn't much of a surprise!

I have to say that Martin O'Malley is a hottie. It's a shame he's a Democrat ;)

Shirley is an improvement
 

Shirley looks good, compared to the very accomplished crook who preceded her.

Why on earth didn't Pittsburgh mayor Tom Murphy make this list... as one of the worst

I was looking for him, too. Not only did he bankrupt Pittsburgh, but now he wants to absorb Allegheny County so he can bankrupt the County, too!! (Can you tell that I'm totally against that?)

What about when Jerry Springer was mayor of Cincinnati?!

Yay, Philly made the list....oh, wait, we made the list for worst mayor. :rolleyes:

I gotta agree that Hickenlooper is doing a damned good job in Denver.

But what would you expect from a guy who still owns and ran a bar in super-cool Lodo before he was elected?
