Taxes: I hate them

I just want to say that paying taxes to the federal government, several states, foreign governments and figuring out how to deduct crap and accidentally applying for things like the Hope credit when you don't qualify has made this by far the suckiest tax season ever.

I know others share my pain. Show it. Let's sign a petition or something and end taxes forever.

Sign me up! This is my first year having to file as married and the so-called "marriage penalty" made what should have been a $10,000 return become a $5800 return.

It really hurt writing out that check.

We thought we were going to owe $2,000 more than we ended up owing, but we remembered some deductions we had forgotten about. Although we still owed an awful lot. :(

Tell me about the marriage tax penalty...

PoohsHoneyBee 04-15-2005 06:39 PM

I'm a poor college student that just wrote a check for $195. Yeah, long story. :(

Rudy,

When you move to Texas, you wont have to pay state income taxes. We have a constitutional ammendment prohibiting them. :)

While paying Taxes suck, it sucks a little less in Texas.

ADPiZXalum 04-15-2005 08:47 PM

That's cause Texas is the COOLEST! :D

We were so excited! Probably because we have such a big family, we had a nice-sized federal refund. Then...what we had to pay to the state was as much as the federal refund. :(

Georgia state tax is ridiculous.

When I first read the thread quickly, I thought it said "Texans, I hate them." I was wondering what happened in Texas.

Taxes are definitely a pain in the neck - this year it seemed like a bigger pain than last year. I definitely did not expect the result I got.

I guess I won't tell you about the fat refund check I'll be getting, I'd hate for you to START a thread titled, "Texans, I hate them" !!!;)

good ol' California is only giving me back $28, but I'll take what I can get.

mmcat 04-16-2005 12:23 AM

who does like writing the check?
i owed so i sent it the old fashioned way...and my check was cashed lighting quick.
do you suppose the irs guys party on april 15?

KillarneyRose 04-16-2005 11:31 AM

Got a few dollars back from the Federal government, but the mega-check we had to write to the state of Maryland more than wiped that out and then some.

Damn Baltimore; it's such a drain on the rest of the state

Buddha MaMa 04-16-2005 11:34 AM

can we blow up the government?

i owe from last year....is it my fault that they forgot to take out enough state taxes?

AchtungBaby80 04-16-2005 02:00 PM

Tell me something--why can the government not just take out the correct amount of taxes in the first place, instead of taking too little or too much? I'm sure there's a reason...I just want to know what it is.
