ZTA and Lambda Chi Alpha Take Top Awards at Drury (Missouri)

Parts of an article in the April 15 '05 Mirror of Drury University (in Missouri):

For the second consecutive year, the members of Lambda Chi Alpha and Zeta Tau Alpha have earned the Chapter Excellence Awards for their Standards of Excellence submissions.

The Chapter Excellence Award is the highest award given to any fraternity or sorority on campus. It is awarded to two Greek organizations, one fraternity, and one sorority, each spring, in honor of their exceptional achievement in all of the criteria laid out in the Standards of Excellence.

"[Standards of Excellence] is a concentrated effort," said Mindy Maddux, director of Greek life, "to record the positive things that these chapters do on a yearly basis."

Each organization files their Standards of Excellence report before spring break. This annual report is based on 13 areas of interest divided into three categories: The Founder's Trophy, The Coat of Arms Trophy and the Briton Achievement Trophy.
Chapters are required to show documentation for each category.

The Founder's Trophy is awarded to the organizations that have excelled in service and support of others. The criteria for this award are interaGreek, university, community, alumni and national relations.

This includes exchanges, community volunteering, campus involvement and service of others.
Internal activities of the chapters are also taken into consideration.
The chapter that has obtained outstanding levels of success in chapter operations, formal recruitment, social programming, risk management and finances is awarded the Coat of Arms Trophy.

The Briton Achievement Trophy honors those chapters that have superb member and pledge education programs and chapter scholarship. . . .

The Greek chapter that scores the highest overall is awarded the Chapter Excellence Award. Lambda Chi Alpha and Zeta Tau Alpha both received every award last Saturday at the all-Greek barbecue. These awards will be presented May 5 at the Honors Convocation . . . .

This is off topic... but I just noticed that Drury, with only 1500 students, has four panhellenic sororities: Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta, Pi Beta Phi and Zeta Tau Alpha... all of which also have chapters at the University of Missouri.

But Southwest Missouri State University (also in Springfield, Missouri... and it will never be known as MSU by the way  ) has six panhellenic sororities, but none of those houses... even though their enrollment is upwards of 20,000.

I just thought it was interesting that Mizzou, with 26,000 students, has more sororities in common with such a small school... but I guess the nationals know where they want their chapters!

Congrats to my brothers at Drury and the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha.

The brothers at Drury are living in a new house thats supposed to be real nice. I was a guest in their chapter house 10 years ago as an undergrad as I was passing through with 3 brothers driving across country. We stopped by and they insisted we stay the nite there. Took us out to eat and everything. Will always have a favoriable impression of those guys.

Also, Lambda Chi Alpha's chancellor is a grad of that chapter.
