A question about Risk Mgt.
 

Do the GLOs policies on risk management generally contain anything about huge open parties, where non-members can just walk in?

The DTD's at Ball State are in trouble because non-members fought in the house, and continued fighting outside.

The ZBT's at USC are in trouble. after a girl said she was 'groped' during a party. This happened even though ZBT pres "Jones said the fraternity had hired 16 security guards for the event". I wouldn't think the ZBT's would need 16 guards to protect brothers and dates from one another.

Isnt it more and more evident, that Risk Management whether by The GLO or the School is becoming much more evident?

As GLOs and Student Organizations, the Restrictions of Alchohol on or in Houses is becoming prevelent?

Of course, as We as GLOs become more savy, We do 3 rd Party Parties. But some do flaunt it and get BUSTED! Then, They Wonder Why The Police were called!

Police do not come to a sight unless they are called. The thing is, Police cannot just file charges with out a call to them.

Disturbing The Peace is the common reason for them to show up.

You cannot disturb a Police Officers Peace. So ajudged by the Supreme Court of the USA!:)

And at the U. of Florida, the April 12 '05 Alligator online reports on an"unregistered party" thrown by SAE last month -- police reports indicating around 200 or so non-members (and presumably 100 or so members) present. The fraternity is expected to receive sanctions.

Big parties, especially "open" ones, seem to carry a lot of potential for risk management problems. Yet it's apparent that at some schools there's almost an expectation that fraternities will essentially provide opportunities for pretty much anybody to enter and drink/socialize several nights a week. Convincing belligerent or out-of-control students or "friends" or randoms to leave too often results in fights, police calls, or worse (serious injuries, occasional gunplay, etc.).

I'm not sure of the exact wording, but I believe Kappa Sigma's risk management policy strongly discourages (or even prohibits) open parties.

As far as I know most, if not all, organizations have strict rules against "open parties." Fraternities at my school have to abide by their rules as well as the school rules. This means that parties must be registered. To be registered there must be a guest list with cops IDing at the front door. This is to prohibit the troublemakers from showing up and crashing the parties.

Most sororities have rules in their risk management handbook about socials and that events must be limited to them and the invited fraternity. It's not followed very much at my school but the Greek Advisors are about to get more strict.
