Craigslist
Hey I was just wondering if anyone had ever sold anything on craigslist. I am trying to sell some random furniture and there was a warning about people using fruadulent cashiers checks.
Please be extremely wary of distant "buyers" responding to your ad! Many sellers receive replies from scammers hoping to defraud them through schemes involving (counterfeit) cashier's checks and/or wire transfers. Fake cashier's checks will often clear funds, but banks hold the person cashing the check responsible when the fraud is discovered. More info on scams can be found at this web address: http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams.html And I think someone is already trying to do this to me. A guy emailed me saying he was in Africa on a business trip but doesn't appear to speak English very well..asking if he could send a money order. What do you think? |
Yeah, money orders are the thing to look for. They explain it in the scam thing. Somehow they gain interest on something er... other.
I have sold stuff on Craigslist before. And I've bought things. I think what I did was I limited my locations so much that it only showed up in Sacramento. Or something. But I wouldn't want to sell off my stuff to any foreign country without seeing cash up front. Shipping alone can be expensive. Kindly say, thanks but no thanks. :) ETA: Everytime I've sold something, I've met the person in a public place... like a coffee shop or something. Or at work. |
The scams are always so obvious. WHY DO THE SCAMMERS ALWAYS USE BROKE-ASS ENGRISH IN THEIR EMAILS? Dont they realize that they'd be a lot more successful if they employeed someone who had passed 4th grade english grammar?
"I'm click click from Outer Watamvo and I ask for you to help me very much with situation and for you to be my friend. I trust you wholly my new friend." Shut the phuck up. |

Ok, let's look at the facts: some man on a business trip in Africa, who doesn't speak English well, has nothing better to do than to shop for furniture on craig's list. AND he is so desperate to obtain your used furniture that he wants to send a money order. You're asking if this is a scam? I think you already know the answer. (Yes, it's a scam) .....Kelly :) |
I sold my laptop on craigslist. I had my boyfriend at the time meet the guy with me then we walked to the ATM with him and had him take out cash to pay for it. It's better to be safe then sorry.

i sold a bedroom. we had the people come to the house with cash and pick it up.
keep in mind i don't live alone. |
I've sold and bought things on craigslist with no problem. I even found my apartment on there.

One of my guy friends in boston sold is car on there. No problems! Just use common sence people!

Anyway, this is a huge scam right now, called a "Nigerian Scam." The party that contacted you is using you in order to gain access. The party either fishes your account info out of you and then sends you a fake money order or they'll send you one real money order for a small amount and several other fake money orders for larger amounts. The good money order will hopefully be routed to a certain destination with the possibility that your bank encoded your account info on the check (highly rare). It's bad news.... |
