One Post and everyones gone mad
WOW, I never remembered saying anything about the rest of the women in the world being stereotypical, dependent, or whatever else. Why do people always have something to say when someone wants to do their own thing? If I don't want to join an already established service sorority, is there really anything wrong with that? It is my choice right? As long as it's something positive, that will contribute to the community, why should it be a big deal that it is new? I'm not trying to offend anyone, in fact I have done nothing to offend anyone as far as I am concern. I just thought that as a new organization it would be great to come on this sight and let other organizations know about us. To make it any worst, other people are misinterpreting my words. I feel like I have nothing to explain, what's said is done.
Negative remarks only make my organization stronger. God Bless |

Lambda Sigma Chi National Service Sorority, Inc. representing the independent, non-stereotypical, and well-educated sisters of the new millenium. By stating that your sorority is "non-stereotypical" you are implying that other sororities are stereotypical. If that's not what you mean, it would behoove you to change your signature. No one on this SITE is against you starting a new sorority, but think before you speak as to how the things you say will reflect on that organization. |
I don't know what a new thread had to be started for this when you already wrote the exact same reply in the original thread, but okay...
I agree with 33girl. To say that your sorority represents the "non-stereotypical" and "well-educated" sisters suggests that other sororities and women's fraternities do not represent those things. I personally find it upsetting to see you coming here asking for advice from others to help your organization, when that quote makes it seem as though you don't have respect for the organizations others belong to. And if I've taken this out of context and that wasn't what you meant, perhaps you should consider changing your signature to reflect that, as I was not the only one who saw it that way. No one is making "negative comments" about your organization... I wish you the best of luck. |
I think I get it
I live near the school and it's a predominantly black school so I believe that she is making a reference to black females (like myself) and not 'sisters in general'.
Not that there aren't black females out there who are non-stereotypical and not members of this group (because I am not a member and I would DEFINITELY not define myself as stereotypical and I do believe there are stereotypes of black females for every different perspective and that they are not all necessarily negative just for the record), just that she's trying to bring some type of classification of distinction to her sorority. Let's not jump to conclusions without first analysing the situation because that only leads to hurt feelings on both sides. She is only trying to do something good and it was taken (and possilbly stated) in a way that some interpreted to be offensive. We are here to unite the Greek community, not divide it, so let's show some support & understanding. (PLEASE NOBODY ATTACK ME FOR TRYING TO BE NICE!!!) |

No matter what sort of GLO she is trying to start, she WILL need the assistance of other Greeks in the process, and really shouldn't alienate them from the get-go. Her signature in and of itself is very devisive to the Greek community. No one's going to attack you for trying to be nice, but don't automatically assume we're trying to be mean and nasty. |
Also wanted to point out that this is the same poster who uses "inc" in the sorority name, though it is NOT yet incorporated. That's another big thing that is devisive, that's NOT cool to do.
hsballer2004, I respect what you're trying to do. However, I suggest that you learn up on the protocol and etiquette, so to speak, of forming an organization. As a second semester freshman, you probably haven't yet been exposed to Greek life in it's entirety and enough to have a very good handle on it. LEARN. Don't go rushing into creating this group, take your time and do it the RIGHT way. Everyone here wants to see greek life succeed, no one wants to hold you back. But you have to do things right, respect the opinions of others, LEARN, and take the help that is offered to you. And negative remarks do not make your org stronger. If anything, it makes it weaker, because it alienates those who would be willing to help you succeed. |
This sorority should also be aware that a co-ed Latino fraternity founded in California already uses the letters "Lambda Sigma Chi." This could create problems in the future. I would also exercise discretion in the area of the membership process. You never know who is reading this site--perhaps even an administrator from your university.
