Published on: 04/06/05 NORMAN, Okla. — A jogger who was hit and killed by a train in Norman was identified Wednesday as a University of Oklahoma freshman from Georgia. The dead man was Patrick James Frensley, 18, of Marietta, Ga., according to police Lt. Tom Easley. Frensley was killed about noon Sunday while jogging across railroad tracks near the OU campus. Norman police detective Steve Lucas witnessed the accident and said it appeared Frensley sprinted in front of the train. Frensley, who had not declared a major, was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the OU spirit team, the Ruf/Neks, and was training to be the next driver of the Sooner Schooner, a miniature covered wagon pulled by two horses at OU football games. He was reported missing about 11 p.m. Tuesday by a fraternity brother, OU chapter president Joe Kokojan said. Frensley was a triathlete, competing in running, swimming and bicycling, according to Kokojan. Patrick was a dear friend of mine. His family, friends, and fraternity brothers will be in my thoughts and prayers. This was a tragic loss. RIP Patrick James Frensley. You are loved dearly and you will be missed. |

A real tragedy. I'll be in Norman in a couple of weeks and have to cross those tracks to get to our son's apartment. I'll certainly think about the young man.
