IFC's That Didn't Make It/Merge
Hey, I was wondering what fraternities merged/didn't make it. Haha, a longer list, but if anybody has any info, it'd be rad if people could share.
Jeff - We unioned with Theta Kappa Nu in 1939, keeping our name. |
Phi Kappa Theta
One of the more prominent, and perhaps truer unions, is Phi Kappa and Theta Kappa Phi merging to form Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity.

Phi Pi Phi merged with Alpha Sigma Phi in 1939. In 1946, Alpha Kappa Pi consolidated with Alpha Sigma Phi. In 1964 most of the chapters of Alpha Gamma Upsilon merged with 'The Old Gal'.

Beta Theta Pi merged with Alpha Sigma Chi in 1879.
In 1889, Beta merged with chapters from the Mystic Seven Society. |
Have fraternities ever acquired another fraternity as opposed to merging? I guess the difference is about choosing which chapters you wanted and not changing your name, etc.

Delta Tau Delta absorbed two of the seven chapters of The Rainbow Society in 1886. One chapter was at Ole Miss and another one was at Vanderbilt. I obviously don't know about DTD's ritual and if they incorporated any of the Rainbow Society but DTD's magazine is called The Rainbow.
The Rainbow Society (also known as W.W.W.) was organized in 1849 at Ole Miss by John B. Earl, John B. Herring, James H. Mason, Robert Buldow, Joshua L. Halbert, Marlborough Pegues and Drew W. Bynum. Orginially known by its members as the Mystic Sons of Iris, many of its practices were based on the number seven. |
