Followers in USA Today
Take a look at this. A story in USA Today about Followers. I know many people have criticized it for begin "anti-Greek," but if you haven't seen something how can you have negative feelings toward it? It comes out this weekend in New York, and I'm going to go see it.

Looks like a great movie. Does it go into a general release soon?
|
It looks like a good movie.

I haven't heard back. Does anyone know when this will be in regular theaters, everywhere?
|
I did see it this weekend. The low budget added an authentic quality to the story - I knew people like this when I went to college. It's only playing in one theater in New York right now, but I'm sure it will expand the way alot of independents expand. One or two cities per week, would be my guess.

The Followers has nothing to do with Hazing. I've seen it and it is a decent movie. Not good, but decent. The movie is more about racism.

The last I heard, this movie is NOT being released nationally and there are no distribution companies with plans in the works to do so.
From what I understand from the movie's official website, it plays every so often at a campus here or there by special request. The movie itself was "premiered" over a year ago, so it is really not news. I've no doubt that USA Today resurfaced the movie story in order to have a more "relevant" feature that could be linked to recent Greek news. |
It was in my fraternity's national magazine this spring that HBO refused to air the movie as a documentry. It bought the rights to the movie sold as a documentry, however when HBO officials viewed the outtakes, there were scenes that had been "re-done" therefore, the movie could no longer be called a documentry. Also apparently during filming, there were no volunteers to be hazed, so the director had to pay the "students" to convince them to let their brothers haze them. HBO wasn't intertested in the film as a feature, so it won't be seen on the pay network anytime soon. I would like to see it personally. If it helps put an end to racism and hazing, go for it.
PS : I'd let my brothers haze me in a movie for a couple hundred. I gots a light bill due this week. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |

Lifesaver,
You're thinking of frat house, that was the documentary. Followers is a drama based on a racist incident at Rider. I do agree with another posting that it's more about racism than hazing. The film was shown at colleges as a preview to the premiere in New York, according to the site. |
Ever since I learned of this film's existence, I have been interested in seeing it. Is there someone in the "know" who can tell me if it will be shown in CANADA? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif
Please post if you know. Thank you! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
