is it true that we might be merging with ATO? its just a rumor i heard . . .

Where did ya get that from?

Of course HQ woundnt confirm it if we were to ask, BUT...

1) Mergers arent out of the relam of possibility. Just cause TKN was 65+ years ago dosent mean they are over.

2) I have heard people at HQ talking about 'partnerships' which leads some other alums to assume 'mergers'.

3) if LXA did merge with another group it would most likely be an aquisition kinda scenario. Just like with TKN. We'd be the larger group and hook up with a smaller group. Yes, ATO is smaller, but not small enough. For it to be a good fit and save some money (which would be one of the ultimate goals, along with expanding our footprint) we'd want to find a candidate that was at campuses where we didnt already have a bunch of chapters. Seems to me, without doing a formal study, we already have chapters at many of the same schools as ATO. I'd figure for it to be successful, we'd have to find a group that was 15th or 20th down on the list. Frankly ATO is too big and I dont see as a viable target for merger.

oh it was just a rumor among the guys, that i thought might have the possibility of being true.

most of the ATO chapters i've seen in texas are tiny. the texas A&M chapter i believe had only 5 or 6 members up until 1 year ago when they tried to revamp themselves. from my experience (very limited) ATO has never really been one of 'the' fraternities to be in around here.

There was some talk about a merger with FIJI a while ago, but nothing ever happened and IHQ's finances improved some. We shall see what happens, but I don't see ATO being a viable candidate.

At the Council of Presidents the GHZ was discussing possibly creating a partnership with another fraternity similar to own for the purposes of sharing information. I know SAE was a favorite due to their similar size, finances, and such. Nothing was finalized about this tho.

Rumors can be rampant, but where one finds them can be suspect.

Previous Exec. Sec. told me one time that many mergers/some could be in effect because of Cash structures of Nationals.

It can happen, but until it is announced, I think it would be wise to just wait and see.

While survival is important, egos can and will come into the picture such as the LXA and TKE many years back before the TKN?LXA merger.

Remember, there was a close association between LXA and TKN.

I was told by an unnamed source that we would only consider a merger situation where we remained Lambda Chi Alpha.

Dont get me wrong, I always wanted to be a Sigma Chi growing up, 'cause pops was. I just dont wanna be one now. lol.

Mergers usually only occur in "dire circumstances", like 10 years
of economic depression. I don't think hardly any national
GLOs are in such bad shape as many were in the late 1930's
and early 40's.

One important factor is overlap of active chapters...merging
2 chapters on one campus is very difficult, as was evident
even with LXA/ThKN.

I could see an "operational partnership" at the IHQ level, where
the fraternities remained basically separate but shared a
single HQ building, funds/expenses, etc....all the "benefits" of
merger in the business world.

But are we really in that bad of a shape financially???
