History

Delts,
I am trying to put together as much as I can about Delt history, what paths our founders took after their Bethany years. Amazing stories about Delt chapter's etc.
Things like the story of Sutton and Brown being initated by Bell after riding through as snow storm to save Delt from dying off due to the civil war. Stuff like that.
Even info on the original traditions (I learned from Baird's Manual of Fraternities that we had a few different badges in use during the early years and other cool facts) would be cool. Anyone have bits and pieces of info from their chapters and/or our overall history? The website and recent pledge manuals seem to just skim the surface and as I read things from further back the story of Delt becomes much more colorful and interesting...something we can all be proud of.

Hey Brother,

I assume you've read the Fraternity history at www.delts.org.

Also, have you seen "Sing To The Royal Purple," the official historic publication?

a little more

Yeah, I have been to the sight many times. But it seems as if it merely scratches the surface. I was look for more...I found out things about some of our founders, like Earle's work during the civil war, and the town that Cunningham started...etc. I have also found info on the Rainbow Fraternity (or Society as is often referred to as) that links it to a much older secret society known as the Mystical Seven and found its "real name". I was looking for stuff like that deeper info...and side stories. A broader history...
I haven't read "Sing to the Royal Purple" I really want to get a copy, does the Central office sell them to alums? or just chapters?

That's interesting stuff that I didn't know. I'm sure Central Office will sell a copy of Sing To The Royal Purple to you.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of the very early Fraternity history was lost in the debacle of the closing of the Ohio Wesleyan Alpha Chapter along with the Fraternity treasury and many more records. For instance, I have never heard of an official date for our founding -- other than 1858 -- have you?

I would check with the Central Office on who would be the best person to talk to.

Good luck.
