NPHC organizations do not have chapters at two year schools.

There are no NPC chapters at 2 year colleges. One of the requirments to join the NPC was to only have chapters at 4 years institutions. The Alpha chapter of KD chose to close itself (I think another chapter that was also at a 2 year institution did as well) so that KD could join the NPC. Thankfully, Longwood turned into a 4 year college and we were able to reopen our Alpha chapter

Phi Mu did this as well. From the Phi Manual:

The 1910 convention made the momentous decision to take steps necessary to gain coveted entrance into the National Panhellenic Conference. Meeting NPC's qualifications meant sacrificing four of the fraternity's ten chapters, but this sacrifice was made to assure Phi Mu's progress and growth. Phi Mu was admitted in 1911.

Phi Sigma Kappa is in a way at a 2-year school or two. Although most would not see Penn State Altoona a 2-year school, in all honesty it is, since most students attend for 2 years and then transfer to Main. Although we have a chapter at Main also most members from Altoona decide to go inactive/alumni status when transfering. The chapter dynamics are completely different between the two schools and Kappa Chapter isn't a good fit for most of the Altoona guys.

Rio formally was a 2 year institution and in that time we've had TKE, SP, ASF, FSS, QFA, DG, & AST I know TKE and Sig are still here, the rest were mostly colonizations that were here barely a year or didn't last more than a 5 years.

Has been tried, didnt work.

Sigma Pi though is still on their Founding Chapter, Norwich. Conn.

Of the rest of the Farmville Four, ZTA did the same thing (i.e. closed their Alpha to join NPC). Tri-Sigma & ASA did not.

When NPC began, the founding sororities chose that it would be composed entirely of chapters chartered at 4 year colleges - anything that wasn't at a 4 year college had to go. For some sororities, that included their Alpha chapter.

It's probably best that it was done that way, since things flow both ways and if they would have let those chapters in, it would have been troublesome if (for example) there were women at Farmville wanting to start a KKG chapter.

Because we were AES before NPC and most teaching colleges were only two years, we lost quite a number of chapters when we joined NPC. I guess long run it paid off, but who knows. I tried to find the number, but I dunno where it is anymore...

Yer just a little off, Tom... Sigma Pi is still at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. Theta Chi was founded at Norwich.

But for the Most Part, I know TKE tried it and didnnt work.

LXA Brought it up at Last GA, and I was totally against it well, along with many others.

To many complications to have to deal with!

i went to a community college before transfering. i am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of the two year colleges.

ZTA also self-closed Alpha....
 

when ZTA national wanted to expand nationally, the women if Alpha at Farmville voted to self-close their chapter for the good of their organization. These women were self-less and caring and are the type of women all of our groups were built upon. We should all reflect on that for a minute. Would WE do that today for our organizations?
