IP Bans

Does anyone know if vBulletin has the ability ban IP addresses?

kafromTN 03-26-2005 04:09 PM

I don't know, but I think it'd be sweet if it did.

Just my $.02 worth

I'll see your 2¢ and raise you 2¢.

If thaty feature is there, it would be even sweeter if it was used.

I think it does have that feature (from what I remember). Trust me it would be SO SWEET!

You know what's sad. I'd be willing to pay a little money to have the PRIVILEGE to post on this website. Then John could control who is& is not allowed to become registered so as to prevent people from coming on here & purposely vilolating the TOS & being racist in general.

Just my $1.00 worth.

I'm a big timer now.

Hmmm...it's funny you should post this considering that many of you "regulars" spew more masked (and unmasked) bigoted rhetoric than any non-regulars on this board.

BTW: These "barbarians" and "racists" have money too. If the site were to cost a fee, I'm sure they could wrangle together a few pennies to pay that fee.

I believe vBulletin does allow banning of IP addresses. However, it wouldn't help much. Users on dialup will get a different IP address every time they connect. Users on broadband who have dynamic IP addresses will get a new one every few months or so. Users in college or at work might have access to a computer lab; ban one IP address and they can just find a different machine.

Tenacity,
and what is the reason for this post? Trying to help the situation?

The Administrator is the only one in the know on this and should be.

But, I would say no. Why? Because many people are on the same IP!

It's like my posts are magnets, and you're made of metal.

If you really believe the Administrator is the only one who can answer this, then every comment in this thread (including yours) has been useless. Funny how you managed to only focus on mine.

Yes it does. Click here, then scroll down to where it says "Admin Control Panel Features."

I know I've resorted to banning groups of IPs (a range of them is what I mean) - the problem is, of course, that if another poster has the same host in the same city, they may be banned as well. It's not a problem on a small board like ones I run, but the chances of non problematic posters being banned on a larger board when a group of IPs is banned is a lot higher.

But it's a chance I'm willing to take lol.
