RECENTLY WHILE ON THE SHUTTLE AT MY SCHOOL GOING TO CLAS THERE WAS A WHITE GUY (HE DIDNT KNOW HE WAS WHITE) WHO WAS TALKING TO SOME BLACK GUYS ABOUT SOME RANDOM TOPIC AND THEN I HEARD "YO THOSE NIGGA'S BE TRIPPIN" I APPROACHED HIM AND TOLD HIM THAT PERSONALLY I WAS OFFENED BY HIM USING ANY VARATION OF NIGGER. I TOLD HIM THAT THE HISTORY OF THAT WORD IS A PAINFUL HISTORY AND WHETHER HE ACCPECTS IT OR NOT HIS ANCESTOR DIRECT OR NOT PROBALLY USED THAT WORD TO DEGRADE ANCESTORS OF MINE. hE SAID HE DIDNT SAY THE N-WORD AND NIGGA IS A GOOD THING HE DOESNT MEAN THE RACISIT WORD. ALSO RICANS AT MY SCHOOL THINK IT'S OK TO USE THE N-WORD TOO. WHAT IS THIS EVERYBODY WHO HAS BLACK FRIENDS OR WHO WERE AROUND BLACK PEOPLE GET A FREE PASS TO USE A WORD CLOSE TO NIGGER. WHAT ARE UR THOUGHTS

Rather interesting perspective you have considering your choice of terms to use in the title.

My question would be is it ok for Black people to call each other by that name???? (And yes I have the right to ask the question, I am a black female)

And I think it was here on GC where I brought this up a while ago. My question, though, was based on the fact that I heard people calling each other the N-word. Indians to Indians, Latinos to Latinos, even White to White.

The bottom line is that WE have made it okay to use the word as a "term of familial expression." So I hope you would also chastize another Black person the same way.

If we want to. I do not think it should be used in mixed company.

Anyone who thinks the N word is SIMPLY a term of familial expression has little understanding of the origin and transformation of the term.

I wouldn't chastise a black person for using it depending on how and where it was used.

I have white colleagues who study Black linguistics and they have used the term around me before. These people do not use the term regularly or with ease. So, I understand the context in which THEY were using it. If they get too comfortable, I will let them know to stop using the term.

Other groups of people have terms that they use around and to each other but would be offended if non-members use it. The difference may be that these people do not use the term in movies and in the open.

But, I wouldn't dare tell whites, Hispanics, or anyone else what they can or can not say to EACH OTHER.

the reason i used the terms in the title that i used was to show that these are what the people who use it are. WHite people dont say nigga, wiggers say it. Is wiggers Polictically correct no, but it proves a point, that term is not pleasing to ears of white people who act as if they are black, just as the term nigga is not pleasing to me. But i do understand what some of u are saying, i dont think blacks should use the term either, BUT if they do chose to use it why not. We are known for taking negatives and turning them into positives.

You said it what I meant, but more clearly. (And dang I always misspell chastise :( ). I was trying to convey to Philly that if he feels that way about the term then he should be an equal opportunity chastiser.

There is so much I want to say in response to your ignorance.

1) You were jumpin into their conversation. Some folks would have stomped you out on the shuttle a la "Menace II Society" style.

2) Based on what you've shared previously about your roots, you have some white in your blood as well. Dad's italian right? Since you are part of that group that doesn't know that they are white either and you are holding folks accountable for what their ancestors said, you should lead by example. 3) Regardless of how you feel about something someone said on a shuttle, adding a whole bunch of extra in the title in an attempt to make a point doesn't make a point. It makes you look stupid. Making a point makes a point.

4) Please refrain from using the African American inclusive "we" until you can consistently submit intelligent and thought out posts. Since "we", African Americans, are known for taking negatives and turning them into positives, you are on a "we", as in African American inclusive, probation until, and possibly after, "we", African Americans, can positively verify your intelligence.

5) And I'm sure that most who are aware of your posts on this board will agree with me when i say,
