I agree...I think some rap these days is just nasty and for shock value. Notice how I didn't call it hip hop...because hip hop is not the crap that you're talking about. I'm not easily offended and honestly, if I'm dancing at a club I might dance to some of this stuff....but that doesn't mean it's good. I chalk it up to record labels manufacturing crap because they know people will buy it, not because it's good music.

You can't compare rap to hip-hop, because rap is one of the four elements of hip-hop (tagging, rapping/MCing, break dancing, and DJing/Scratching)

But, it's not my place to comment...

why isn't it your place to comment!? haha :p I guess I've always just thought of hip hop in my mind as a genuine form of music/artistical expression and "rap" as manufactured crap that really doesn't take much talent. Maybe it's not technically correct to think that way, but I just see the types of music as two different things. Kind of like the difference between a good steak and canned meat...haha.

I think that the thread started out in the Entertainment Forum -- where it belongs.

Why don't we keep it there?
