5-Year Old Arrested in Florida
|
Now arresting a 5 yr old for apparently having a temper tantrum is a little hardcore.....there is a sure fire way to handle that..... call mom and have her give a swift paddling of the behind ...not traumatize a child by being taken away with cuffs on both wrist and ankles and taken in a squad car......
|
I think the officers who cuffed her should be shot by the mother.
|
that's a bit ridiculous...
|
I read about this yesterday and thought it was a bit much. She's FIVE YEARS OLD!!
|
*deep breath*
ok. first off. 5 years old. a> counseling sessions with school counselor on appropriate classroom behavior. If counselor believes student needs more counseling, recommend a free/low-cost counseling service. b> Social Service visit with parent(s). If child is THAT outraged at 5years old, check to make sure the homelife is running smoothly. Set mother up in services that provide parenting classes and family-based anger/stress management. |

Unfortunately though, if the quote Munchkin pointed out is any indication, mom doesn't think her daughter did anything wrong. I'd have to say this behavior was more than a mere temper tantrum. My kids have had temper tantrums and they mostly consist of throwing themselves on the floor and screaming. Not assault. It sounds like this poor child has problems, and her mother's enabling behavior is not going to help her down the road :( |
There were no charges pressed, so she wasn't really arrested.
This day in age, that is probably what teachers HAVE to do for risk of being sued. If I were a teacher, I would call the police too. If a kid is hitting people and throwing things around, you cannot tackle the kid yourself, and obviously that mother is a headcase. "They set my baby up" What the hell is that? She would sue any teacher that touched the kid. Teachers probably knew that. They did the right thing by calling the cops. I applaud them. |
Krazy........ the child was 5 yrs old. there is protecting oneself as a teacher , but to add more fuel to fire if the child has already developed emotional problems to cause outburst like this ,this will only add more trauma by being taken away in cuffs in a squad car........I was 5 and was called to the princapals office for something i saw and was questined by the princiapl, my dad ,and a police officer .... the police officer only scared me more so just imagaine what this did to the child....plus, the school officials were not happy by this at all from what the article mentioned.

She's a 5 year old child . . . about the same size as a Chucky Doll . . . sans the homicidal killing spree. Would you be afraid of a Chucky doll?

It's not so simple to just 'try and help' with outside services and sometimes I do believe the police need to be called in for help when it's clear a situation is out of control, as it appears it was in this case. This was probably not the first tantrum, nor the first time the mom thinks her "baby" was "set up". Glad they are trying to keep this child safe from her own actions, as well as keeping the safety of the teacher and other students in mind. --now i have to get some rest so I can go teach 18 4&5yr olds tomorrow.... |

Listen, there is something else going on here. The mom is a wacko. I bet they knew not to restrain the child, due to something exhibited by the mother earlier on in the year, etc. Cutie, I am sure you survived your trauma with the principal, and I am sure this child will survive this whole ordeal as well. At least she knows what happens if she goes crazy, and hopefully she won't do it again. |
The child could be bi polar, ADD, ADHD, etc and the outburst a result of THAT. And really, IMO teachers should have a bit of training on how to deal with that. My nephew is bi-polar, has outbursts from time to time and the teacher, tho well aware of his condition, routinely disciplines him/throws him out of class. Yes, kids need to be disciplined, but disciplining someone in the middle of a rage they cannot control does not work. Maybe he's just had particularly insensitive teachers, but no one in my family has been impressed with how he's been handled in school.

What the HAYLE is going on in Florida??? All these incidents are making me a little nervous.
|
The 5 year old should be tried as an adult.
