Great... Nation of Yahweh nosing around campus
Didn't know whether to put this in News, Chit Chat, or Entertainment...
So I've been noticing some posters and flyers around campus lately flogging the Nation of Yahweh cult... but the kicker was this past St. Patty's day and weekend - where there was four members of the cult outside the library where I've been doing a lot of research (ironically in PIMS - Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies). Now I'm pretty thick-skinned when it comes to the "flyer-folks" and such around campus; and some can get pretty extreme in the promotion of their views... but these guys just gave me the creeps looking at them - well that and having them call me a devil and bless themselves. Well according to the "literature" (believe me I'm using the term loosely) Canada is now the "New Promised Land" of the cult. Even the most basic research into any of the "teachings" (again using term loosely) or actions of the cult show a disturbing and unsettling trend towards hate, violence, and brainwashing... though the sacrifical killing of a homeless man I think took the cake for the most f**ked-up and scary. Anyways long story-short I've been trying to track down who stamped the posters (so that they could legally be put up) and who their contact is on campus... |

They broadcast from Buffalo or Rochester so that their Canadian followers can recieve the "word"...I'm guessing its' the same public access thing you're talking about... I actually recorded it so I could try and figure out a little more about them... The word games and pseduo-intellectualism is actually kinda funny to watch - but the message and meaning is actually quite disturbing. The whole Jim Jones thing comes to mind listening to them... well that and the brainwashing has obviously removed any ability to speak normally:rolleyes: |
Heh. Canada has long been thought of the Promised Land for black people (Underground Railroad, anyone?), so their promised land rhetoric is nothing new. Still and yet, thanks for giving me yet another reason to keep my black behind in British Columbia, and not venture forth to Ontario. :D

I don't think they've made it to CA yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Groups like this freak me out & I just give them a wide berth when I'm walking by.

However from where the pamplet lists their "church" mailing address here in Toronto (Church & Welsley) it should be pretty funny in a couple of months :p |
Otterbein has this problem...we attract street preachers like the freakin' plague. Every spring they're on the fron steps of the campus center yelling high E above C about how we're going to hell because we accept gay people to a methodist school. Whatever happened to Christ's love? One time a student drove past blasting his music and stopped...the preacher reached into his car and took his keys and threw them across the street. But we can't tell them to go away because they're on the sidewalks..."technically" campus property.

He believes he's the Jewish messiah - but the Jews aren't the 'real' Jews, but instead it's the "so-called blackman of American" - but the US government is keeping this information from the people because it's under the control of the "white spawn of satan" and "the false Jews" - but it's all okay because in his previous incarnation as Jesus he saw the future and 'encoded' the Bible to instruct his followers... Oh and you better not mess with him because he brought "two flaming bolts" from the sky to smite the "white devils... false Jews... etc" on Sept. 11th  Of course the whole history of ritual killings of "white devils" and members that left the church is a little unsettling to say the least. Guess he must have missed out that whole section of the Bible (well that he wrote) discussing things like love on another and looking down on murder... |
