I think most states have similar sites. Is he living close to you?

Of course, in the current death of the nine-year-old FL Girl, every mention of the perp says "registered sex offender". Registation failed us and her.

You can get to MO's sex offender list through the Highway Patrol website. You can search by name or county. The list is LONG!!! It also lists what that crime was.
But MO's list isn't so detailed with the description and map to their address!

So Kevlar, is this your next door neighbor or something-- why nightmares?

I check out the Michigan version of the sexual offender's web site periodically to see if there are any in my neighborhood, particularly those that may be a threat to my kids. I told my ex-husband that there was a 21 year old boy on his street who is a sexual offender (sounded like a date rape type thing), just so he would know. I also have checked out blind or "met on the internet" dates in advance of going out with them and my ex-husband thought it was weird that I do that. Hey, I'm just trying to keep myself and my children safe! I worked in adolescent psych for too long and got a skewed view of the world.

I checked out the Florida site too after seeing this thread. 3 sex offenders accused of assulting children live in my boyfriend's little town of like, 300 people.

I couldn't believe how many there were in my county. There were 671 just here.

Ok- when I followed the link the pic never loaded. I just scrolled down thru this while sitting here at my desk--- I almost let out a really loud gasp!!! (the office is so quiet i would have had to scramble to find an excuse--since i am swamped and shouldn't be on gc.)

There's a guy that lives in my neighborhood that has been accused of lewd acts with a minor. Scary because there's a lot of kids in my neighborhood. There's also a guy that has been charged with sexual battery and assualt who goes to my gym. I will be keeping a safe distance from him.

During my senior year in college, we had to work on group projects in my capstone class. There was this kid from another group who thought he was the shit and would always brag about how smart he was. I got an email one day from a member of my group that had a link to UCF's sexual predators website. The kid we hated was on there for sexual molestation of a minor. It was really scary and I got chills down my spine everytime he walked into the classroom from then on.

They couldn't find any identifying physical characteristics of this guy?!

I also checked the Michigan sex offenders website when I heard the rumor at work that a guy working with us was registered on the website. Well, I did some searching in the area and I couldn't this particular guy, but did find out that a guy who lives in my apartment building and on the same floor as me is a registered sex offender. Talk about upsetting.

my question is, who in the hell in their right mind goes on sexual offender websites???? I guess for women it's kind of like what porn is for guys......they just like seeing that shit.

:rolleyes: I went on the MO list to see if any of my neighbors were on the list! I think that is why most people go there. It's all about seeing if you know anyone.

I guess I never really think about sexual offenders. :)

The benefit of being a man-- and not having kids, sexual offenders probably aren't high on your concern list!!
