EMU sororities

Hi there. I'm transferring to Eastern Michigan this fall and I'll be a sophomore. This past fall I pledged a sorority and ended up de-pledging because of the way that I was treated. I left the school and came back home (and apparantly the girls still give my roommates shit about how me and my other roommate depledged and were never sisters and it's really disheartening). But the thing is, I'm still interested in going greek...I'm just really skeptical about hazing policies and attitudes of actives now. I was wondering if anyone went to Eastern and could offer me some advice, opinions, or personal experiences on sororities there. Thank you!

All the groups:

Looks like they have Alpha Sigma Tau (I think they were founded here)
Alpha Xi Delta,
Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Kappa Alpha
Zeta Phi Beta
Delta Zeta
Delta Sigma Theta
Phi Sigma Sigma
Sigma Gamma Rho
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Kappa
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Zeta Sigma Chi

Edited because I missed one (oops)

AGDee, I believe is some kind of advisor at EMU. She could give you more information on the sororities on campus. Good luck!

I am an alum of EMU and currently oversee six Alpha Gam chapters, including the one at EMU. There are also women from Sigma Nu Phi, a local sorority that has been at EMU for a very long time who post a lot on the locals thread. While I know the Alpha Gam chapter best, feel free to PM me with questions. EMU is not a "danger" campus with regards to hazing. I can definitely say that our Alpha Gam chapter there treats their new members with pride, respect and love and are currently exactly the type of chapter I would be want to be a member of today.

Dee

ETA: EMU doesn't have a very competitive recruitment either so coming in as a sophomore or even a junior isn't an issue there.

trygreekpages.com.

As it loads, it will show greekgear. Hit the - and will then bring up gp site.

You can check for school there. Will give insight of Greeks on campus. You then may want to email greek life advisor.

Members of GC will also be glad to give some insight too.

I agree...many of their links are broken and their some of their campus pages have organizations that have closed/left campus.

Jill1228's list is accurate for NPC and NPHC groups, it's just missing the local, Sigma Nu Phi.

Recommend moving this thread to the Rush Forum and advise the poster to contact the office of Greek Life at EMU for statistics on recruitment and advice about the campus Greek culture. Meanwhile, please check out the Rush Forum for threads on typical conversational topics you will encounter at a recruitment event, and ways to prep yourself over the summer-- working on high grades, a community service activity, practicing the art of conversation and coming up with a platform of why you are interested in Greek Life. Also, check out the sorority national and chapter websites for a feel of what they are each like.

Good luck!
