Mar 11, 2005 1:19 pm US/Central DONNA, Texas (AP) -- Three high school coaches have been fired two weeks after several of their players were charged with the attempted sexual assault of a freshman player. Donna School Board members fired head football coach and athletic director David Evans, head baseball and assistant varsity football coach Alfredo Holguin Jr. and head freshman football coach Robert D. Gracia on Thursday. Late last month, the South Texas high school's starting quarterback, Derick Castillo, and Reynaldo Magallanes, both 18, were charged with misdemeanor assault and two counts of attempted sexual assault. Another varsity player who was 16 at the time of the alleged incidents also was arrested and released to the custody of his parents. Seven other victims have come forward and more arrests are expected, said school board president Matthew Jones. Castillo and Magallanes were released on bond. sad to say...
they aren't the only ones. we've had several incidents in the el paso area alone. |
5 - 10
There are probably five to ten times more newspaper-reported hazing incidents in high schools as in GLOs.
This is not a good time to be a HS coach. The soccer moms, basketball moms, etc., are so worried about little Johnny and Susie having their feelings hurt, and so they make it hard for some of the traditional locker room antics to continue - and insist on the death penalty in all cases. |
