I am going to New Orleans for Vacation. What should I do?

Hello All,
I am looking for the people who live or have been to Nawlins recently. My boyfriend and I are going there for a long weekend (Wednesday -Sunday) @ the end of this month. He and I have never been there, and need some help on what to do and where to stay.

We are both young, hip folks, and he loves to party. I also want this to be romantic too. Any suggestions on where to go?

Someone told me New Orleans is famous for the ice cones, but I have to go out of the tourist area to sample that. Where should I go?

Where should I stay. I think I am late in the game on reserving a hotel, but I am looking in Metaire (sp?). Is this a good place? Any other suggestions?

Also, I made an appointment for Belladonna Day Spa for a couples spa day. Anyone been there, heard anythhing about it, or know of another place?

What restaraunts should we try? I only know Cafe Dumond (sp?). I want something only found in Nawlins.

I heard parking is crazy in the French Quarter, but anyone have suggestions on that? I am in Southeast Texas and will be driving in.

Thanks for your help! I look forward to reading the replies.

i went to Mother's restaurant downtown, not far from the convention center. it doesn't look like much but the food was really good. i recommend either the Courtyard near the convention center or the one in Metairie. both places are nice:D
lastly, and it is on the pricey side, Emiril Lagasse (sic) has a restaurant downtown. i didn't go to that one (just the one in Orlando). i would recommend it. it had nice ambience when i walked past it and peered inside.

When I visited New Orleans my friend and I ate at The Court of Two Sisters in the French Quarter. The food and atmosphere were very nice. It was around this time of the year and we ate outside in the courtyard and got a chance to listen to music and just enjoy ourselves.

Also, there's a seafood restaurant in Riverwalk Mall, I can't remember the name of it, but it was the best seafood I'd had in a while and it had a nice atmosphere as well.

If you like candy or chocolates, try Laura's Candies. I love turtles, and they had some of the best homemade turtles I'd ever tasted in my life!!

I have stayed at the Rue Esplande in the French Quarter, it was nice the only problem we had was getting lost trying to find the "Praline Connection", we were told they have great food and the fried pickels were delicious. (don't try them)

Try the parking deck near the convention center at riverwalk, if they can not accomodate you, they can probably give you some recommendations.

I think the best place to stay if you are going to New Orleans is the French Quarter. There are many hotels. I stayed at the Ritz on Canal the last time I went. I have also stayed at some historical hotels like the Andrew Jackson. If you stay in the Quarter you can park at the hotel you are staying at. I have also stayed at Iberville Suites which is right behind the Ritz. If you don't stay in the Quarter which is were the tourists can really walk to everything, then you can use the Riverwalk parking or park at Canal Place (Mall) at the end of Canal Street. I wouldn't suggest parking on the street as I have had my car stolen doing that before.

Metarie is far from the French Quarter about 30min, or so. If you do stay there, The Double Tree is really nice and affordable. Request a room with a view of the bridge.

My absolute favorite spot to eat is The Red Fish Grill on Bourbon Streen in the Quarter. For lunch they have a BBQ shrimp po boy that is off the chain. For dinner it a wonderful atmosphere and a little pricey, but worth it.

You have to go to Cafe Du Monde which is a coffee and bengiet (sP?) shop in the Quarter.

If you take a tour of the French Quarter by mule drawn carriage you will learn lots about the city and see all the places that you can walk to an visit later. The tour is about $10 per person. This city is rich with culture and history so you don't want to miss it.

I hope you have a great time. Its a very fun and romantic city.

:)

There are lots of nice cozy bed and breakfast places there. That might be romantic if that's what you're looking for in a place. I haven't been but I planned a trip two years ago and just didn't get to go. I found many nice B&Bs.
